Now that Erik is back in the states (Alabama)

With our son back in the states (Near Huntsville, AL) after being in Mexico for the last 5 years, he is ready to start hunting and shooting with XP-100's again.
When we go see them, he will be running a center-grip 6.5 Creedmoor XP-100.

He has been shooting and hunting with specialty pistols since he was 9 years old, but school and mission work in several countries has interrupted that.

I started both of our kids shooting specialty pistols early on, and I am excited the Erik is picking back up as an adult-I am pretty happy!

Those are fun photos. When I saw them, it made me think of my childhood and being fascinated with handgun hunting. I asked my dad if I could hunt with his Colt 1911 .45 ACP and he wisely declined. I recall reading articles from Bob Milek (don't remember the periodical) and Larry Weishuhn in the 70s and 80s which helped fuel my handgun hunting interest further. I had dreams of hunting jackrabbits and other varmints with a Ruger Single Six in 22 WMR.

I later worked for a large hunting and fishing store in Athens, GA called "Franklin's Sports" in the early 90s and they had a large inventory of Thompson Center Contenders. I still have two Contender receivers and barrels in 35 Rem, 30-30 Win, 22 LR Match and .410/.45LC from Franklin's. This thread has inspired me to take them out more this fall. We have an "extended" doe only season opening up here in my county in VA this weekend. Since firearms are allowed, it may be a great time for breaking them out since I'm not under a ton of pressure to fill the freezer yet...

Bob Milek was my specialty pistol inspiration. Make sure you post about hunting with your TC.

There is a chance we will be together for a whitetail hunt in December. I will let him hunt. I will be along for the ride and enjoy time with him.

Kristen hasn't been hunting or shooting recently. Four kids, 3 of which are teenagers and work has kept her extra busy. Tommy (Husband) hunts every year. It would be fun when their life slows down a little bit to get her out shooting again. She was very good when she was at home.
At her first 1000 yard BR match (15 years old I think) a guy offered her to shoot his rifle, and she won her relay for score, and when into the shoot-off

Good memories. It's fun and enjoyable teaching them to learn to experience the real world of shooting. Reminds me of when my grandfather got me started when I was little, started off with a .22 and a .410 Remington Wing Master.
I'll be teaching my grandson to shoot when he grows up, he is only 7 months old now.
