Looking to load for both a Savage 11 FCNS 22" and Weatherby Vanguard 24". I have a large supply of the 100gr Solid Base bullets. I figured someone out here might have some of the older load data for those bullets. Like a dummy I got rid of all my Nosler books except #7 & 8 and have checked...
Guy, Bryce and George,
Thanks for the info. It helps. Any recommendations on commercial vs military brass. I have some Winchester 223, but also picked up a bunch of fully processed Lake City brass. In process of building an AR, with the upper that I bought which shows a chamber of 5.56...
Looking over the load data, I see either a 1-7 or 1-12 rates of twist for the .223. I am going to load for a bolt action Savage that has a 1-9 twist. Any recommendations on how the load data would pertain to this twist? Have a variety of .22 Nosler bullets, mostly in the 50g range with...
Testing still in progress. My initial thoughts are the Savage does not care for the 175 ABLR’s or this powder. In testing I loaded up some 175 Partitions and hit on load that gave me about a 1/2” group at 100 yds. I did not do any adjustments to the scope, just allowed the round to impact and...
Went to several different stores, but could not find a tap that matches the fine machine treading on the Stoney Point/Hornady Lock N Load. At this point will try the method of blackening the bullet and seating it in a slightly tight case mouth and measure from there.
Well that experiment ended. Went back to making sure my measurements were right and used the 284 insert and zeroed the calipers. Found the bullets were seating so far out that they basically had nothing to stop them from falling out of the case. Long story, one 7mm modified case is now toast...
Dewey and Scotty (OooooRah),
Thanks. So just to clarify for any of the ABLR’s which are:
3.407
- .050 to start?
-------
= 3.357 and then do the .020 by adding or subtracting? If I read Dewey correct...
No luck on finding the RL33. Did find RL25 and one can of 26, both being fedexed today. I always measured my rounds using the COAL/SAAMI recommended for my loads, so doing this now off the olive/lands is new territory. Nosler recommended .015 or .030, but I saw in some threads starting off at...
Thanks DrMike and SJB358. Trying to find those powders is fun. Have plenty of RL22, H4831sc, I7828ssc, and misc. one pound cans of others on hand. Would you recommend trying the COAL, in increments of - .015, .030, .050 and .100 to find a sweet spot on that bullet?
This is the measurements...
(y) Just took over my son’s NIB Savage 7mm RemMag and want to set it up for elk hunting using the 175 ABLR’s I picked up. Anyone worked up any loads for the this combo? Keep seeing other calibers/loads using RL 26 and 33 but couldn’t find any load data on those powders. Thanks.
Yes on the chronograph, though I’ve not had it out for a long time, mainly have relied upon the groups to determine which load to fine tune. My list of components:
Primers: Win (WSR) and Fed (205), though I’m going to have to look at getting more, since I’ve never loaded w/small rifle primers...
Thanks. Will gather up my bullets, cases, and powders and let you know. Appreciate the help. Also putting together an AR and got a heck of a deal on a Ruger Mini 14. But focus will be on my Savage and good 200-300 yard range.
Not familiar with the Miler stability. Being lazy, didnt want to expend a bunch of time, powder, etc on trying to find a load for the 223 bolt action using 55gr and up bullets.
I have a big bunch of 100 gr Solid Base bullets and wanted to do some loads, but that bullet has disappeared from Noslers manual. Will be shooting these out of a Weatherby with a 24” barrel. I am guessing that most of the 95/100 listings would be a starting point, but input from ya’ll on tried...

Just picked up a Savage bolt action FCNS model. It has a 1 in 9 twist. Nosler manual shows their stuff was tested on a 1 in 12 twist. Any recipes out there for the 223 with the 1/9 twist? Thanks.
