Kraky,
So are you saying that when I'm develpoing a hunting load and looking for something that will give me MOA or better, that mixing bullets that vary by as much as 1 full grain will not hinder my load development?
Everyone keeps talking about velocity and bullet drop - and both are important. But I think we are forgetting about another important consideration. Energy. What good does it do to hit an animal in the chest if the bullet won't penetrate or expand. I personally don't think a shot should be...
I have an Alaskan Guide (Cabela's) 6.5-20x52 in a 30 mm tube on my 243 WSSM. And I have a 6-18x50 Bushnell on my 223 WSSM. Both are great combinations.
I think you meant 'Super Shadow'. And I had the same problem with my Wally World Super Shadow in 223 WSSM. When you remove the stock, you will find the fore-end is mostly hollow with a few ribs for support. And you will see that Winchester used some sort of black epoxy to bed around the...
Please, please. 165 grain in 30 cal. I don't want to be stuck with the Barnes 165 TSX with a .505 BC. The weight varies too much from bullet to bullet. I like the BC of the 165 BTip and the weight retention of the Accubond.
I recently bought a box of Barnes TSX bullets in 165 grain .308 caliber. Being a 'premium' bullet, I expected tight tolerances. Needless to say, I am disappointed. Comparing 150 grain Nosler BTips, I found a spread of .3 grains in weight between all the Nosler bullets. The Barnes bullets...
I have a Win 70 Super Shadow 223 WSSM. My results so far have been mixed. I recently discovered that a dollar bill hangs up in places while passing between barrel and stock. So I replaced the stock with the one I took off my 243 WSSM when I installed a laminated stock on that gun. Results...
Agreeing with several of the responders, 22-250 and the Swift are great choices. I would like to add the 243 WSSM to the list. I can push a 58 grain moly at 4000 fps using 46 grains of H4895 AND get sub MOA out of a 22" lightweight barrel. Not much recoil, either. For your KY hogs at a max...
I bought a gun cleaning box (looks like a fishing tackle box) at Wal Mart last year for $20. It comes with rests to hold the gun while cleaning. But you would still need a rest to shoot from. I like the Caldwell 'Rock' and a sandbag for the shooting part.
If it shoots as accurate as my 300 WSM Coyote Lite, you will be pleased as punch. I got a half inch 3 shot group using factory 150 grain Ballistic Silvertips. And I'm getting close to that with 165 grain handloads - and not finished with load development.
There is an old saying 'the squeaky wheel gets the grease'. In other words, you tend to only hear about negative things. So I will defend the WSSM family. I have gotten great groups out of a 'straight out of the box' Win 70 Super Shadow 243 WSSM, with factory ammo. I have since gone to...
