    Does Different Brass=different velocity?

I am considering switching from WW brass to Norma brass for my .300 WSM. I expect the Norma Brass to have less volume, and therefore lower maximum charge. However, what should I expect velocity wise - will switching to Norma Brass result in a lower, the same, or higher velocities for a given...

QL, RL17, and TTSX help, please

Hi there, I have only enough RL17 to run one OCW for my .300 WSM. Could somebody please run a Quickoad for a) 168 g TTSX, and b) 180 g TTSX (Alliant's website data is way too hot for this bullet) Also, for anybody with experience trying these two weights for TTSX/TSX and with this powder...

"Interchangeability" of load data question - DrMike

I guess I am making a couple of potentially dangerous assumptions with respect to the Ramshot (Magnum) and Accurate (Magpro) data for 180 g MRX, Btip, Etip, and Partitions: I am assuming that a) the same .300 WM was used in generating the data for these four bullets (180 MRX, Btips, Etip, and...

    Brass issue, annealing maybe?

JD338, I betcha Heath read an article from John Barsness about using a candle to anneal brass. If I remember correctly, the technique is to hold the candle about halfway up the case between your fingers, place the neck in the candle flame, and turn with your fingers until you can no longer hold...

"Interchangeability" of load data question - DrMike

Thanks guys - you have provided the kind of answers I was hoping for. My plan is to use the "safest" data possible when developing loads for a powder + bullet combo for which I have no published data for. For example, If I want to develop a load using IMR4831 for a 180 grain Barnes MRX (a powder...

"Interchangeability" of load data question - DrMike

DrMike (and others), Before beginning please accept my apologies for the long post - could not make it shorter and still make it clear I know - the common, "safe" recommendation in using load data is to only use the same combination of powders, primers, bullets, and brass as used in generating...

    QL Help for Barnes MRX

I don't know if this is valid, but I thought I would "cheat" by using the data I have obtained from my 180 g TTSX load development. My plan 1) determine the most accurate 180 g TTSX load for each of the 5 powders I have tested (H4350, IMR4831, IMR4350, N560, & RL17) 2) load 3 rounds with...

    QL Help for Barnes MRX

Thanks DrMIke, I will post my results as soon as possible. Truth be told, sort of hoping they don't work out too well - hate the idea of spending $37.99 for a box of 20 bullets. However, I will enjoy shooting my "gift" bullets.

    QL Help for Barnes MRX

Hi there, Can someone please do a QL run for a Barnes 180 grain MRX in a .300 WSM (the kind that lists a "near max" charges for a variety of powders)? I've experimented with this bullet in the past, but gave up on them - too pricey. However, I've just recieved an early X-mas gift of 2 full...

    300 WSM Powders

Apparently no coincidence that H414 and W760 both work well in the .300WSM - Just found this tidbit posted on another site: Hey guys, not sure if this has been posted before or not, but I found it interesting. I noticed that the loading data for H414 and W760 were close, but H414 is listed in...

    A Culprit Behind Poor Accuracy

Yes, it would suffice. Checkout the 6mmBR site, archives section and look for the article on bore cleaning. It lists at least 2 engine carbon cutter products that they recommend.

    Brass ?

Cons, Can't remember where I read it, possibly the gunwriters forum on the 24hourcampfire site, but one of the con's of nickle plated brass (If I remember correctly), is that it "flakes" off in the dies/chamber and is very difficult to remove. I will see if I can refind a link for you.

    Neck Runout on Fireformed brass

Bullet, I thought IMR4350 was going to be "THE" powder for me. Here are results of my OCW test done in May for IMR4350 (temp of -10 C or 14 F - a warm May temperature for the Arctic) - 3 shot groups, but done "round robin" style. 62.9g = 0.48" 63.5g = 0.94" 64.2g = 1.31" 64.8g = 0.59"...

    Neck Runout on Fireformed brass

The rifle is a factory Remington 700 chambered in a .300 WSM. Groups are averaging in .84" (for 10, 3 short groups) with the various OCW loads using H4350 that I have tested . The average for the load that I will be probably sticking with (62.5g of H4350) is 1.09" - not the most accurate, but...

    Neck Runout on Fireformed brass

Was bored tonight so I measured the neck runout on my once fired, unsized/fireformed brass. Average from 10 pieces of brass was .0023". I remember reading somewhere that fireformed brass can give you information about your rifle. What information does it give you? What is an unacceptable amount...

    seating depth

For the recommendation of .005" changes in seating depth, is that for the whole range of possible seating depths e.g., .030"-.100"= 14 different seating depths = 42 rounds of 3-shot groups. or is that for fine tuning once you have isolated a general range of good seating depths e.g., .030"...

    H.S. Precision Stock

Thanks guys - you have convinced me - I am taking my gun up with me and will only consider bedding my rifle if something seems amiss (i.e., groups increase with my New vs old factory stock).

    H.S. Precision Stock

Just ordered a H.S. Precision stock. According to a H.S. Precision website, glass bedding is not necessary and would void the warranty. What are others doing. I recall a post where a poster stated that he, as a matter of course, ALWAYS beds his rifles with H.S. precision stocks? Normally, I...

    Pressure Signs and New Brass

With help, I may have found the culprit for my seemingly "premature" ejector marks - A small burr/ridge around the ejector hole caused when the hole was initially drilled. Apparently, it is known problem on some Remington M700 rifles. In any case, I am now working on sending my rifle to...
