I think the factory needs to solve the wooden stock problem first. I have shot all the .400s and owned some, and some people are not going to be able to handle the recoil.

JD338,
I shot the Berger 130 gr/.264" VLD in my 6.5-'06 last season, and that bullet just pure knocked the snot out of an antelope at 300 yds.
I also shot my first deer with a 6.5X55, I think that warped me to the 6.5 side.
I also have a 6.5 TCU, but haven't hunted with it (10" TC...
I talked to Ruger last year about a 6.5 RCM, and they took it up with Hornady. The Hornady folks initially thought it would be a bit overbore capacity, but then the factory guys always say that kind of stuff. I don't know if they will go there or not. If they don't I will build a 6.5 Rem on a...
John,
The 12" twist is a standard for the .308 Win, and all of my rifles have used that twist. I shoot 180s quite a bit hunting, and you can even use some 200s if you have a wild hair.
The larger cased .30 cal cartridges use the 10" twist, a holdover from the days of the 220 gr .308" bullet.

Rick Bin the head fred on the 24 Hr Campfire also sells Leupold. He is a good guy, and stands behind his products.

Leupold is famous for price controlling their distributors, if they sell for too cheap they get cut off.
The steer to used scopes is a good...
Russ,
I have owned .375 H&H rifles by several makers, and hunted in Africa with it and the .376 Steyr. I bought a .375 Ruger Hawkeye African in .375 Ruger when it was announced, and that rifle will go on my next Africa hunt.
I find it a handier rifle and cartridge combination, and it got...
The markings in the metal should tell you who made it. You might have to pull the barreled action out of the stock to see them all. Also a gun proof handbook is handy.

Fulldraw,
I bought a Ruger No. 1B new in '76, mine is a 6mm Rem. The trigger came from the factory at 18 oz, it has held that over the years. I loaned it out, and it needs some of that work too.
Thanks for posting what you did and how you did it, great job!

I used the Federal ammunition with the 300 gr Nosler Partition in my .375 H&H a lot in Africa, it is a stone killer. It will work fine for your bear, just put it in the right place.
Good hunting!

I shot BR with a Rem M40XBBR rifle in 6X47 with a 20" barrel, and it was very competitive before the .220 Russian alternatives hit the scene. I only shot 68 to 70 gr bullets, they were very accurate (most were hand made BR bullets bit I shot a lot of Sierras in practice).
I like to separate the...
YoteSmoker,
I did the online application for a fourth season deer out by Grand Junction. I think I have enough points to draw it, if not it will be next year.
I am also waiting for Montana to do their thing on the elk/deer combo licenses, real soon now.

Powerstroke,
I started using my 6.5-'06 in '80, mostly for deer hunting. I started out using 140 gr bullets, and went up to 160 gr trying loads. With the rise of the super premium bullets I now mostly shoot bullets in the 120 gr to 130 gr range.
I have been thinking I would like to have a 6.5...
