Flat base vs. boat tail bullets

Thanks for sharing. https://www.milsurps.com/images/importe ... tail-1.jpg might be a decent follow-up. I've had the notion - from Hatcher - that boat tail bullets came into being with machine guns. The idea was to increase the range of the bullets while also cutting down disturbances in the...

    IMR 4451 and IMR 4831

One other note on IMR 4831. It isn't as temperature insenstive as H4831sc, Varget, H4350 or the Enduron powders like IMR 4451. I'll see pressure signs with IMR 4831 in my 280's if I workup in 40F degree weather and shoot at 85-90F+. Low node can be your friend with the powder. In the 280's I...

    IMR 4451 and IMR 4831

Both powders should work well in the 6.5 x 284 - Hodgdon lists a good number of loads with both - https://shop.hodgdon.com/reloading-data ... 1612808627. I do see reduced copper fouling with IMR 4451 and some bullets but not others. I'm using somewhere around 42-43 grains in the 6.5 Creed...

    Forster dies

I'll second what jimbires wrote. I think only the most discerning can tell between Forster and Redding. German Slazar did testing and found the Redding to be top notch, but he did not test the Forster dies - http://www.uniquetek.com/store/696296/u ... Runout.pdf I like the Hornady seating...

    New Sierra Game Changers

Elkman, No argument. I'm not interested in new and shinny things. I use both the PT and AB in my 280's and 30-06's for non-MI hunting and sometimes MI hunting. Parents are UT residents and my father and I try to do a western hunt every two years. I like to have two totally distinct loads per...

    Powder Valley has powders hurry

Best guess on my end is 3-7 years, and yes that is a big range. Manufacturer's are booked through the middle of next year and some are not accepting new orders. Back in Nov. Vista Outdoors owners of Federal Ammo, CCI and Speer among others had a year backlog of ammo worth over 1 Billon USD -...

    New Sierra Game Changers

Wasn't sure if I should double post or edit the OP... Figured DP would function better. MidwayUSA is stating that the new GC are coming soon / overdue - so hopefully they will be shipping soon. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1020546838 The original priced GC were about 30-35 cents, these...

    New Sierra Game Changers

Thank you Possum. I had seen it, I used that data with my 6.5 Creedmoor. Do you happen to know what the color coding means? I took dark green as preferred, green as good and yellow as workable but not ideal. The MidSouth pdf actually differs a bit from what is on the Sierra website -...

    What's New Nosler

I agree with Fotis on businesses should get a handle on their existing products. Having said that - Sierra looks to have expanded their Game Changer line with some additional entries on their website. Not a word though on them in the normal channels / web search shows nothing. Point being...

    270 Win vs. 280 Rem vs. 30-06

I'm a 280 guy my self. What sold me was that as an 18 year old looking to buy "my rifle", I figured that I could shoot a 175 grain NP at about the same velocity as a 180 grain NP out of a 30-06. The sectional density was much higher on the 175 grain with a better BC as well. Same with the 150...

    New to reloading question

Welcome Tate! Sounds like you have a good setup and material to work with. I use a Rock Chucker for my 6.5 Creedmoor loading. I try to buy / stock powder that will work for multiple cartridges and or bullet weights, that way if something doesn't pan out I can use it in a different cartridge...

    New Sierra Game Changers

Thank you 6.5. I took the 6.5mm 130 grain out to 1000+ yards a few times and took a buck last year with them as well. Absolutely love the bullet, but would like to try the 6.5mm 140 grain supposedly coming out. I've got primers, but since they aren't replaceable right now, I'm torn between...

    New Sierra Game Changers

Hi Guys, I'm seeing a good amount of new to me Sierra Game Changers on the Sierra website - 2 new weights in 30 cal, 2 new weights in 7mm, 1 new weight in 6.5mm etc. But I'm not seeing a press release, expected market date, reports of field tests or other data on them. Has anyone heard or...

    280 Rem or 280 Ackley?

The Mark II / Hawkey's seem to be really accurate, mine in 270 win sure was, and yes they aren't the smoothest action or the lightest girl at the dance. But that rigidity gives them a leg up on less rigid / tupperware stocked guns... I'm pretty sure you have some options, last I checked the...

    280 Rem or 280 Ackley?

I really don't think you could go wrong. Would restocking the existing rifle help on the weight side of things? I know it wouldn't add barrel length, but it might be a cheap compromise solution... I have two 280 Rems and a 280 AI. The 280 AI is a Kimber 84L classic with 24" barrel and it is...

    My Divorce From Nosler

Paul, Thank you for sharing. I'm disheartened to read your issues; I honestly think number 7 might be the worst of all - "He explained that my replacement barrel had arrived at their facility, but had been appropriated to the wrong project. 7. Lost track of customer's replacement parts...

    A question on throat erosion...(long)

I would agree with SJB358. Your numbers don't seem horribly out of line. I have a Sauer 100 in 6.5 Creedmoor which comes with a short magazine but uses a long action. When using the factory magazine I get significantly over .1 jump. With a 30-06 magazine, I can get it down to about 0.03".

    What won’t work for you?

2000's production Remington brass. In 280 Rem I've generally had very good accuracy with factory 150 grain Remington ammo and have shot many boxes of the stuff and I would generally reload the brass. In Early 2000's they started shooting horribly and 3-4 would split on their first firing. Since...

    Chamber question

Those lights (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/KhoAAOSw ... s-l500.jpg) are great, I also use dental mirrors on a stick (https://s.yimg.com/aah/dentakit/dental- ... ror-24.gif) and different bore mirrors to look around (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/tTQAAOSw ... s-l300.jpg or a locally made...

    Chamber question

+1 Think the flexhone would be too aggressive for that sort of burr. You really don't want to change the chamber's shoulder angle. If it really irritates you, I would suggest getting some 1000+ grit paper on an appropriately sized wood dowel or even Flitz / Rouge / etc. on a converted case...
