    Did not perform as expected

358 WCF has great responses and I would be okay hunting with anything starting with a 0; but I've never shot game past 350-400. I've seen humidity / temp changes cause some issues due to bedding changes in wood stocked rifles. On a synthetic or tub gun, I don't think humidity makes much of a...

    Heat extremes?

Not sure on the definition of extreme - it varies based on how constant the temp is and one's usage of the powder. If you expect your powder to last a year, than you can store it in much hotter conditions than if you want it to last 10+ years. I thought the US military testing showed...

    Weird Group

No problem. I did revise my post to add some environmental considerations as well and press home the value of re-shooting to verify the loads double grouping. The lights up / sight up situation took me a few years to really understand. I see about a 1" to 1.5" vertical difference at 100 yards...

    Weird Group

Good group, shooting again is a great idea. Whole lot of environmental factors I don't know about. For example, that fps drop you experienced would indicate that you came out of the node... But, without knowing your setup, I can't really comment here - personally, I get about 50fps variations...

    Bore cleaning older rifles

Little late to the party... The Bore-Tech products should work well for you, EE2, but you might find some bullets / fouling that it just doesn't attack with vigor. If you see that, I would try KG-12 for copper and Ballistol as general purpose cleaner. Wipe-Out or Patch-Out are also great...

    carbon solvent?

No problem 358 - it is a long theoretical read. The relevant bit is in section 3. cha - I actually have a lot of test data available, the issue is that I don't keep it organized... I've been trying to re-find an examination of the M1 Carbine post Korean war but pre-Vietnam for several years. A...

    carbon solvent?

lhsako, Carb / Patch / Wipe-Out products should all work for you. Couple of Marines I know and one I went to school with swear by Gunzilla for carbon fouling. They were M240 / M249 gunners and they swear it changed / saved their lives in the sandbox; but I've not had great luck with it. I left...

    carbon solvent?

Good write-up and photos 358 WCF. Have you tried the bathroom cleaner CLR yet? It's on my list of things to try, but I don't have a bore-cam to verify results and its acidic nature makes me leery. https://primalrights.com/library/articl ... l-cleaning and https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/th...

Is the .30-06 that much better than my .280 Remington

SJB358, I guess I get out in the woods more than most... Most of my friends get out camping and scouting way more than I can. I generally do most of my harvesting during archery season. I am kind of the designated meat harvester for family / friends. When my brother lived in state he wanted at...

Is the .30-06 that much better than my .280 Remington

I would take a different approach than TXbaldhunter, not that he is wrong. Both are great rounds and you really can't go wrong with either. The 280's are a bit a little more specialized with better ballistics - BC and Sectional Density (SD). The 30-06 has more shock value, which for the...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

Sorry about the link - not sure why it isn't working... Googling "http://www.larsondavis.com Firearm_Sound_Briefing" brings up the the article as #1 for me. Congratulations on the CZ! I love the CZ 455's, I don't own one (yet) but I've been on a mission to find one at a gunshow for about 4...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

358, That sounds like a good grand daughter, and a good setup for her. Teach her right! I'm afraid I can't help on the scope mounts though. No problem with missing the can info, wasn't really focused on it as part of the setup... Had only been mentioned in passing - op had " It will be used...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

358 WCF, sounds like you have your Ruger pretty well figured out! I'm a big 280 Rem and Ackley fan. I don't get much more velocity from the Ackley version, as I upload the Rem, but brass life is very good as is the accuracy. I was hoping to get out with some RL16 and 17 loads this weekend...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

358 WCF, Sounds like you are definitely on the right track! That is a very impressive group from you with that rifle! Please let me know how you made / make out on the re-test. I got some shooting in over the 4th of July weekend, mid day was tough with wind and mirage. Early morning shooting...

I am not understanding 20 MOA rings

Long post - will give all details here... I have been banging steel out to 1075ish yards to good effect. Personally went 3 for 3 at that range with a 5" group. Ammo was low so handed it off to my father, otherwise I would have liked to have seen what a 4th and 5th shoot would have opened it up...

    Nosler Accubond seating advice

Would second the magazine modification. Also, seating them deeper might very well work; but I think it is possible that you would get into neck tension affecting accuracy. Down the page at: https://precisionrifleblog.com/2020/04/ ... ment-tips/ - Cal gets into some of the issues that can arise...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

Thanks for the info / feedback 358. I'm not terribly impressed by the Ruger American's - they have way too much stock flex for my taste, especially when using a bipod. I think their are a few routes to stiffen Tupperware stocks - notably adding carbon arrows or steel rods to the fore-end and...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

SJB358 and 358 WCF Thanks for the feedback / load data. The 6.5 creed really does seem stupid easy to work with - I mean, if I can stumble upon a decent load right out of the gate then anyone can with a capable rifle. 358, thanks for the heads up and I won't tell anyone about Midsouth. I'm...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

I sure appreciate the help! The 130 gr Game Changer load works well out to about 1100 yards, seems to have some issues out at 1200 yards but I'm not sure if it was me or the bullets going subsonic. I would hazard that it is both me and the load... Either my inputs are off or the BC of the 130...
