For about 25 years I've used nothing but the old surplus 4831 in my 270. No complaints really, but Ive been trying some different powders lately trying to improve ballistics. With h-4831 sc and h-1000 I could'nt get any more velocity than the old surplus powder. I usually load 150 partitions and...
Today I shot three different brand bullets into a wet clay and shale bank behind my place. The distance was about 270 yards. The bullets were all 7mm dia. A 150 gr. core-lokt, a 160 gr. speer and a 140 gr. accubond. Though hardly scientific the first two turned inside out. The accubond held...
I load 57.5 grs. of H-4831 with a 150 gr. partition. I'm going to try the 140 gr. accubond also. The ballstic tip is too explosive for bear in my opinion. The 150 gr. load gives me about 2800 f.p.s.
There's a fella that hunts with the group I'm in that uses a 308 760 rem. He uses 180 gr. round nose core-lokt's. When he shoots he kills. It's almost automatic.
In over thirty years of reloading the 270 I've never had a problem with compressing any loads. I have used the slower burning powders though, H-4831, H-1000 and r-l 22.
I shot a whitetail doe today with a 140 gr. accubond out of a 7mm saum. My load was 58 grs. of H-4350 for 3017 f.p.s. The distance was about 125 yards. I hit the left side just behind the shoulder and it exited at the off side shoulder leaving an exit wound about as big as a coffee cup. The...
I've shot quite a few deer with the 180 partition with nothing but excellent results. Everyone was a bang flop, and I did'nt have a lot of bloodshot meat.
