    Want vs Need

Sure, I buy guns that I like but don't really need. Guns are the kind of thing where you can get something nice that does not cost all that much, or take up that much room. I was in the gunshop a couple of weeks ago and I saw the Mannlicher shown below. Its chambered in 358 Win. Now I...

    Berger Bullets

Yes I got it mounted. The neck did not come out quite as thick but its still looks good. The buck was feeding in that cut corn field with some does. He may have been in some shock ? The VLD bullets are not some miracle but as I said before I like the edge their BC provides and along with my...

    Berger Bullets

Here is the only picture of that deer that I can find so far. I tried, long ago, to edit offf the wound so nobody would see it. In doing so I kind of ruined the original or whats left of it. You can see a line on the left side of the pic where the deers leg is no longer visible. That of...

    Berger Bullets

JD338, Its perceptive of you to call the behavior of that deer weird and in fact to remember the story as well as in fact I did tell it before. What I have not told before about that story are the following additional facts. That deer was feeding in a cut corn field with other does. He was...

    Berger Bullets

Berger VLD's don't make me nervous at all. To me the VLD's give me an advantage for deer hunting on the farm. Then on the other hand I am not a moderator here or employed by any bullet co. I shot a large buck in the ribs at 193 yds twice with the 140 Ballistic Tips from a 270 WSM. The buck...

    Berger Bullets

Hunter Jim, What Berger bullet did you use? Did the bullet or its fragments exit the lope? I shot a whitetail doe with the 155 VLD at 130 yds with a 308. I aimed for the only spot available as she moved into brush and that was the top of her hips or the spine. The bullet hit her spine and of...

    Berger Bullets

I am using Berger VLD bullets in the rifles that they make them for when hunting on the farm here. The VLD's have a superior BC, Bill Davis the inventor helped me with a program and Barsness says they work well on deer sized game. I killed two deer with them and they are superb.

    New 257 bob for 2008

I like the Kimber 84M's however the 257 R. might be more 'comfortable' in a longer action and magazine box. All the 84M's have is 2.8". I know the official COL of the 257 is 2.78" or whatever but ........ The Howa is made in japan so thats out for me. The 257R. does nothing for me either...

What bullets do U guys like in 264 Win mag

I use my Westerner M70 only for easy to carry field hunting. Its too heavy otherwise. The load I worked up long ago using the 120 gr Ballistic Tip and RL 22 is so accurate that there is no reason to fuss any more. I get extreme accuracy and 3350 fps or so. That load was developed long...

    Non Lead Bullets

When the barnes X came out I got some, shot some and still got some. The non lead bullets cost $.75 ea! Why? I would like to use them but I can get the other bullets for a fraction of the cost.

    Ruger Compact Magnums

The WSM's look good to me in the Kimbers as they are light but handle recoil so well. I like the short magnums but favor 7mm. Too bad the 7mm WSM is not doing well. The Rugers are heavier than what I like but some may prefer them. Good luck with your new rifle and of course tell us all...

    270 Winchester & 140 Accubond.

I like that base of the neck shot when possible on whitetails. I have shot two deer with the 140 .277" Accubond and both exited and performed well. A 600 yd shot on game is more than what I would be able to do. Most of my hunting is in the North East and we don't or can't shoot that far...

    280 ackley vs. 7mm remington

Listen to Eagle Eye. The so called improved cartridges based on the 06 case show only a tiny increase in case capacity. Therefore the velocities will be about the same, maybe 60 fps more in my experiance. At this point the 280AI has not been accepted by SAAMI so its not certain what its...

    hunting rifles - whatcha got?

Here is a neat full stocked ZB Brno 22f in 8-57 that I had a M70 safety put on. It weights about 7.75 lbs and is quite accurate with the 180 Nosler BT. I used it opening day in Vermont. I have other rifles.

    Rough Throat on Barrel

ldg397, Lets see if the usual suspects have been eliminated? You must have made up a number of loads, checked the scope by switching it, and the usual bedding problems like guard screws that bottom out on their ends, magazine boxes that are too high etc. I would try the Tubbs system but I...

    Hearing Protection ???

For the best hearing protection you need to ask Rocky Raab. I started shooting in the early 50's and we didn't use any plugs then. My hearing got damaged early and I have always had difficulty understanding speach when there is background noise. This is not a good thing and you don't want it...

    What cartridge to chose..................

I hunted for years with a #1 7mm RM. To me the 300 mags kick too hard and are not fun to shoot at the range. Ruger had put a 1-10" twist in that bbl and it would not spin long bullets so now its a 30-06. Suppose you could just change the extractor to go to a standard head size. Ruger did...

    SAVAGE MUZZLELOADER & REMINGTON

Perhaps this is not the best forum for ML info? I use www.boardreader.com to find topics on boards. I have a Savage ML 10 11 and it works well. I am not that interested in ML's to be frank but I did suffer with a TC Renegade for years. Perhaps it was my fault. I fired the Savage ML 10 11...

How many .264 Win mag shooters?

In Australia its common to fill the truck at night with roos. One guy there has shot 20,000 thingys. Keep going. At ten a night you should tie that number in seven years.
