I gotcha.
Just a little more math to get your dope charts at 18X.
I think I would take that scope to a field or long range and see if you are really gain anything in terms of sight picture by going to 18X.
If its a 2nd plane scope which it probably is, I would use the power specified by...
Never tried Minox nor Zeiss, so I can not speak to those. I have however used many Leupold series from Vari x 1 to the VX3L, Redfield, Nikon, and Trijicon.
Hands down, the next scope I purchase for extended range shooting will be a Trijicon. I am a big fan of side focus and dope charts, not a...
As much as I dislike Bushnell, I have one that came with one of my 10/22's and I love it. It has a cheesy AO dial at the end of the scope, but it works great on that rim fire rifle. Its a 3x9 x 40 if that matters.
Man, did I miss out. At the range, a few guys were shooting nickle brass. They probably left 200+ rounds in the range bucket. I left it as I thought you needed carbide dies to reload it.
Read the manual, and enjoy. Repeat as necessary. If it is not fun, walk away and come back to it another time.
I agree, the Speer is a great intro manual. I got mine with the rockchucker combo I bought.
Just curious how you calculated your mildot dope at less that full power? All of mine require that the scope be at full power. If you have a method, to convert other than full power, please pass it along.
Thanks

Thanks all for the input.
He had already sold it at the gun show before I got a chance to look at it.
I do agree, every rifle is different, but I only load to the max SAMMI COAL. I was just taken away that he loads it over .12" over that.
On a side note, I measured my chamber length using...
Like other have said, I use this site as a source for reloading as it is for the most part kept in order with facts and experiences.
With that, felt recoil varies from person to person. With the rifles I have shot/have, I have the most aggressive or most felt recoil from most to least:
1)...
Thanks for the input guys. I never heard of measuring this way, so I was a little concerned. Going to look at the rifle this morning.
Have a great day!

I am fairly certain I know the answer to this question but I need to ask. It is actually two questions:
1) With your bolt action 30-06's, what is the typical OAL? I have two rifles. Both Rem 700's and one likes 3.25" and the other like's 3.340" or the MAX COAL. Which leads me to the next...
So, this is my 2nd most favorite way to hunt other than archery. That being said, has there been any advancements with this caliber in regards to bullets? I use Buffalo bullets currently. We can not use sabots.
I shoot a open sight, hawken, brass loading flask, etc..
Thanks
WM
Cheaper, a little bit, but not much. I reload the .223 for the AR's as it gives me something to do in the winter besides watching TV. I reload about 1500 rounds, with a single stage, but have the assy line system down pat working up about 200 rounds at a time. It takes me about 1 1/2 hours a...
I was not really looking for a which is better than answer, but I should have asked, which is your go to whitetail load for either or. I maybe should have dropped the 7mm-08 and just asked about the 30-30, but since I have used neither for whitetail, I was curious the differences.
Yeah, on a good day where we deer hunt, a 100 yard shot is a long one. Lots of brush, big timber, steep hillsides etc.. Normally, 20 - 50 yards is typical, hence the majority of my hunting is done during archery season. We spot and stalk, and have not shot from a tree stand in over 20 years...
I have a Trijicon 5x20x50 Accupoint on my 300 RUM Sendero.
My Wife has a Leupold VX2 3.5x10x50 on her 300RUM XCR.
We were doing a lot of bushwacking this year, and I came to the conclusion that the larger Accupoint is not a good carry scope for this type of hunting. I love this scope, but...
I just worked up a batch of this combo:
All loads were Remington Brass, once fired.
160 grain accubonds
Fed 215 Match primers
58.5 grain of IMR 4350
3.290" OAL
Worked wonderful in a rifle just like yours. Recoil was a little less than a 20 year old factory remington Core-Lockt
165 grain...
