Saving my 250-Savage- is it worth it? Talk me out of it.

Good to hear Troy. You know this thread is a perfect example of why only you can decide if a project is "worth it" or not. One man's idea of a waste is another's idea of a good, solid investment. As long as it suits you Troy, that's the only thing that matters.

    357 158 xtp

Since 2400 is pretty much a unicorn around here I bought some Ramshot Enforcer which is just one notch slower burning according to my burn rate chart. With 14 grains of powder and the 158 grain Hornady XTP, it shoots great out of the 7.5" barrel of my new Bisley Blackhawk.

.300 WSM 150 grain Corelokt Tipped

You are correct Doc, but they don't come back typically until the fires are out and the dust, ashes etc. have settled. We are still on fire here in every direction. I just hope they get put out quickly. My season starts August 1st and goes through Dec 31st.

.300 WSM 150 grain Corelokt Tipped

I am certain the rifle and load combination is more than up to the task. I just hope the myriad of wildfires haven't ran all of the elk off. Forgot to mention that I got another coyote with my .22-250 on the way to the range at about 200 yards distance and I got to try out some new 158 grain...

.300 WSM 150 grain Corelokt Tipped

Made it to the range for a quick in and out trip yesterday. I loaded three cartridges into Dad’s Model 70 Classic Sporter .300 WSM which is on loan to me for filling my Damage Control Cow elk tag this year. These are the 150 grain Remington Corelokt Tipped factory ammunition. Like other .300...

    He pulled the plug.

It will be interesting to see who they choose at the DNC. If they were smart they would run someone like RFK Jr. But I bet you its Kumala or Hillary that gets the nod, maybe even Michelle Obummer or Gavim Newsome.

    139gr Hornady Interbond

John Barsness wrote a year or so back that Hornady had made some changes to their SST. He and some others went on a Hornady sponsored deer hunt in Texas and shooting a .308 Winchester and 150 gr SSTs he only recovered a single bullet from several deer killed. Not surprisingly it looked like...

    Lever weekend.

Fotis, glad you found some .405 brass/components. Where on earth did you dig those up? Everyone, every single dude I know with a .405 has been unable to find brass or ammo.

    Another Coyote for the .22-250

On an average year I would say 15-20 coyotes. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Once a few years back I was invited to attend a helicopter coyote hunt on private land. The ranch was nearly 40,000 acres and I doubt we even covered half that. In three hours of flying we shot 27 coyotes.

    Another Coyote for the .22-250

We live in a pretty target rich environment here for coyotes. I have shot them with a full gamut of rifle cartridges including the .22 LR. I killed one with my .357 on the way to town one day and I shot one while out flushing birds another time with a 20-gauge shotgun. I saw one shot with a .375...

    Another Coyote for the .22-250

Whatever is handy is how I do it too. As a result I have shot them with quite a few different guns and cartridges over the years. Most of them have been loaded for big game so they were not "fur-friendly" either.

    300 H&H Ruger Number One...

Do it!! It seems the rifle-buying devils have been tempting us all lately. I just sold a few guns and then a couple weeks ago finally found one of my grail guns, a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk .357 so I bought it. This week while perusing Gunbroker I spied another, a Winchester Model 70 Stainless...

    Another Coyote for the .22-250

For a long time the smallest rifle I owned was my Remington 700 .25-06 and it was mainly used for coyotes and the occasional deer. I shot straight 120 grain Corelokts through it for the first few years I owned it but got tired of paying $14.95 a box and decided to handload. Heck $14.95 wouldn't...
