My daughters hunter safety instructor in Colorado was teaching survival one night and shared what he uses.
Mix IMR 7828 with women's finger nail polish remover. Form into small meatball shapes. Store in 35 mm plastic film containers. In the field crush the ball and light. Trust me, they work...
Thanks for sharing those memories. I noticed the pair of felt pac boots in the pic. I have a pair just like them from long ago. Although I've moved onto a more modern hunting boot today those felt pacs were the best you could buy at that time.

I saw difference in my 300 RUM reloads after I switched from RCBS to the Forster Bench rest die set.
Have been very pleased with the results. I'm planning to purchase the same Forester set up for my 30-06 real soon now.

Tom,
That's an excellent buck! Congrats to you and your daughter on her success. I sure miss hunting with my daughter who is a missionary in Rome, Italy. She is scheduled to come home for 2018 and has reminded me to slide right on over and hand over the 35 Whelen as she intends on resuming to...
I'm so in love with that 35 Whelen. Just love those 225 bullets. It really isn't overkill at all. Even with a shoulder shot on a whitetail the exit holes aren't overly large. It just unloads a lot of energy when it hits. I still can't get over my Dad handing it down to me. 8)

Thanks a ton for doing that (y) . The old boy was chasing a doe, ran across the log road I was watching then into some hardwoods only to come back out farther away, then crossed back over log road. The doe crossed over but the buck walked onto the road and stopped for a second, 225 Partition...
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share I got a nice 8-point buck this past Saturday morning. He has a 17-1/4 spread.
I shot him at 80-yards using the lightning rod, 35 Whelen with 225 Partitions
It was a high shoulder shot exiting the neck. Dropped him in his tracks right there on the...
If I were you I'd load up the different bullets mentioned in this thread. Put together some bullet testing medium like soaked newspaper combined with 1/2" plywood pieces or whatever others would recommend here. Conduct the testing at the average distance you shoot deer.
The idea is to see the...
I had a similar issue last year. Loaded 180 Partitions in my 30-06 that were seconds from SPS. Checking them with the comparator, like you, I noticed the variation in seating depth of my loads, 75% of them were off. It wore me out changing and tweeking the seating die to make them the same.
The...
Never loaded for anyone else. Will not, due to liability and taking blame when something goes wrong, like missing a deer. They can buy factory ammo then blame themselves for the problems.
Like mentioned in this thread, it takes time to develope any load and who has that kinda time when I...
OU812,
I could'nt locate my load notes from back then using RS Magnum powder with the 200 AB and
I can't recall the exact velocity, only remember it didn't match up with the RL-25 results.
I have tried US-869 powder also and could only get 2,900 fps with the 200 AB. Retumbo gave good velocity...
I have used Ramshot Mag powder extensively in the past when I loaded the old Barnes blue coated bullets in 180 grain. In my 300 RUM I currently shoot the 200 AB with RL25. But I did try Ramshot Mag powder with the 200 AB. It is as you say a very accurate powder. But I could not get the velocity...
Tommer23,
I have used both the 225 AB and the Partition in my 35 Whelen for whitetail deer. My load clocks 2677 fps. Let me tell you it just clobbers deer buddy!! When you put one in the boiler room they typically don't get very far. It's either down and out or a very short distance is traveled...
