Ramshot Magnum

I've used Ramshot magnum in the past with my 338 Lapua, 8mm mag and 338 O'Brien but never in my 300 Rum until today and I have to say I'm impressed with the accuracy. I have not got any speeds yet but will soon. All 3 shot groups were at 100 yards. Loads used were new Remington 300 rum brass, 200 AccuBond, Fed 215 primer, COL 3.050, magnum powder.

I have been pretty surprised at how good some of my buddies plain jane Remington's shoot too!
Time to stretch that gun out to a little longer distance!

The weather is starting to get nice enough to get back out to 600-1K with it. If the speed is respectful for a 300 Rum and the accuracy of the 94 grain loads holds Ramshot magnum my very well replace my beloved Retumbo load.

This rifle has, 90% of the time put the first 2 very close or touching and the 3rd out a little. I'm sure if I let the barrel cool a little more for the 3rd shot the 3rd shot would come back in. For my first outing with magnum in this rifle I'm impressed with the accuracy potential. Right now I"m liking the 94 grain load but 1 3 shot group is too small of a sample to get to excited, time and more rounds down range we'll see how well it holds up.

It did indeed. :grin: . Only 1 of the groups is MOA, all the rest are under and with the first 2 shots either touching or being very close I can bring the 3rd shot in if needed. With retumbo I had 1 lower charge weight with accuracy and one higher which I chose as my go to. Everything in between was horrible to say the least.

I can see me trying magnum in my 264 to see what happens.

But I did try Ramshot Mag powder with the 200 AB. It is as you say a very accurate powder. But I could not get the velocity with it like the RL25 from my gun.

Don what kind of speed did you see with magnum? I have not shot for speed yet but plan to do so soon.

From what I have read and seen online it seems pretty temp stable, much more so than typical ball powders.

I could'nt locate my load notes from back then using RS Magnum powder with the 200 AB and
I can't recall the exact velocity, only remember it didn't match up with the RL-25 results.

I have tried US-869 powder also and could only get 2,900 fps with the 200 AB. Retumbo gave good velocity but peaked very fast working up loads, good accuracy too.

It all came together for me trying RL25. It's my current go to powder.

I was always trying to push the envelope using new brass to get super sonic velocity at one point.
All the while stacking up once fired brass that wouldn't work due to the high pressure I was causing. I finally realized another 100-150 fps will not kill any faster. So I went to working up a load using resized once fired Remington brass.

Here's my load: Fed 215 primers, 91.5 of RL25 and 200 AB. I get 3059 fps on 35 degrees (temp. of load development) and 3100 fps on 85-degree days.

Best 3- shot groups I have shot at 100 yards and repeated several times when I have had a good day at the bench is .442.

Your load looks good. I'm curious as to what velocity you are getting as every gun is different.

Don right now my current load is with Retumbo rem brass, fed 215 primer and a 200 AccuBond, my ave velocity is 3198 and the brass is good for 4 loads before the primer pockets get loose. My 3 shot group size is just under MOA with the first two shot touching or very close and 3rd always out. Just for grins decided to try Magnum in my 300 rum and so far like what I'm seeing accuracy wise, more accurate than Retumbo but I'm sure the velocity is lower, we'll see though. I'm hoping to get some speed readings this next weekend and will post what I get.

Finally got out between rain storms and got some chrono work done. 94 grains magnum powder, chrono at 16 feet. 3 shots were 3072, 3072, 3093 in that order, ave speed 3079.

Velocity is certainly sufficient to carry the mail and standard deviation is superb.

I'm using magnum in my 300rum and I love it. Nosler brass rem 9.5m primers 200 AB and 96 grains of powder gives me consistent sub moa groups right at 3200 fps. It's a match made in hunting heaven

That is some great speed and accuracy, my retumbo load is at 3200. I really like the accuracy of the magnum but this low 1st shot cold dirty bore has me scratching my head right now. I'm hoping to find something to be the cause but so far no luck.
