Guy,
I tried all the powders you listed this past fall during load development for my 180 BT.
I use Winchester brass with CCI250 mag primers. H4350 gave me the best accuracy of all the powders. I could not argue with 2775 fps in that load either from a Rem. 700 22" barrel. When I used RL22 and...
Buy a 35 Whelen!! Doesn't kick like a magnum, has lots of power. Bullet selection is 180-250 depending on bullet manufacturer selected. Easy to reload. Components are reasonable in price.
Love my 30-06 but my 35 Whelen has a special place in my heart! You would not be disappointed in this...
I could never get my Buck knives sharp as I wanted until I bought the Lansky 5-stone set up. They are like razors now. But I will say hunting Elk with my nephew in Colorado introduced me to the replaceable blade system that looked impressive!!

Growing up in Pennsylvania and deer hunting with my Dad, Uncles and cousins there were a variety
of rifles used that had no trouble killing deer. Dad used a custom 8mm Mauser, Uncle 30-06, one cousin had a 32 Special, 243 Winchester was present too. One older gentleman I knew when I was 12-yrs...
Our Tennessee rifle Deer season opened here Nov. 19th. First day saw nothing but Doe. Sunday the 20th I saw a few buck with one shooter buck chasing some doe near me, no shot possible. But Sunday evening at 4:15 PM with 20-minutes of shooting light remaining that all changed.
Conditions were...
Jerry,
The reticle in my opinion is incredible. You are correct, I didn't have any problems seeing it in the declining light condition I experienced at the time. Previous days hunting, before taking the Doe, I was on stand testing the reticle and clarity almost at dark where you could hardly...
Update on the Burris E1 purchased for the 30-06. I took a Doe last week with this set up and I'm happy to report the scope is impressive. For the money its amazingly clear and excellent in low light conditions!! I bought the 4.5 x 14 x 42 version. I shot the deer at 4:20 pm with about 10-minutes...
Ok everyone I'm reporting back on the new 30-06 180 Ballistic tip load going 2783 fps.
I killed a doe last week at 75 yards. Uphill, angled broadside shot complete pass through. Entry hole right behind front leg going upward exiting the offside shoulder blade. She was DRT, dropped like a ton of...
The little I did mess around with Hunter powder did show some promise!!
Rem. 700 30-06 22" barrel
Winchester cases
CCI 250 mag primers
165 Ballistic tips
Ramshot Hunter 59.0, 60.0 & 61.0
Lots of free bore, seated bullets length of magazine
Temps were high 70's to 80- degrees F.
Can't...
Truck driver,
Just my experience with my 35 Whelen. The 225 AB doesn't seem to give as much damage to deer compared to the 225 PT. Shots have been 35 yds to 65 yds with both bullets. My load is going 2677 fps.
Don
Thanks for all the comments. I have a set of 30-06 RCBS dies that have FL & Neck sizing dies in the set.
I'm thinking of getting a Forrester Bench rest die set. It seems to me it's a better quality die set compared to RCBS.
Don
Is any there any benefit to just neck resizing, speaking only of my 30-06 brass?
Is there any accuracy node that neck sizing gives verses full length resizing?
Thanks,
Don
Thanks Dale,
I will let you know then, hopefully!! Our Rifle season for Deer opens Nov. 19th. Got some nice shooter bucks on my cams. I have the 35-Whelen ready to go with 225 Partitions and the 30-06 with the new loaded 180 BT.
