Whitetail Deer hunting with 30-06

Great! Sounds much like the performance I'm getting from the 165 grain Ballistic Tip bullets from my .30-06 rifle!

Congrats Don. That 180 BT is a super bullet. My cousin has been using it in the 300 WSM this fall after using a 25-06 and 243 for a lot of years. He loves the instant feedback with the 300... :lol:

I'm happy for you Pard! They sure have toughened them up, which is great as the BT has always been an accurate bullet for me and others, too good to pass over.

Well yesterday was our last day to hunt Deer here in Tennessee. It was the end of a special anterless season for landowners and leased land.

I was able to kill another doe with the 180 BT load from my 30-06. I am more than pleased with this bullet and the performance. It puts the smack down on the deer.

I plan during the off season to tweak the load to tighten up the group, just some minor seating depth I'm sure.

My final tally on deer for the 2016-2017 season was a 7-point buck with the 35 Whelen and 2-doe with the 30-06 using the new 180 ballistic load. Lots of freezer meat for the winter and then some. :mrgreen:

I'd go with whatever shot best and likely they'll both shoot well. I don't believe whitetails in general "need" a 180gr 30-06 load.....

I'm with Sam - Most any 180 grain bullet out of a 06 is going to put a deer down.

Whitetail deer just aren't that tough.

I use the 180 Rem CLs just because I got'em in a bullet swap - they have worked every time.

If you have both ABs and BTs use'em both.

When you go to buy more, But the ones your rifle shoots most accurate.

Thanks Guy!! That buck was a decent buck for our area, but I have some real bruisers on trail cam in the 19-20" spread range I was salivating over! Oh well if they made it through the season they should be bigger next year. I belong to private leased land, actually 3-tracts that are together comprised of 1400 acres. Only 10-members in the lease.
