CFE223 is the main powder I use in the 308. It is supposedly very sensitive to temperature. I can’t say that I’ve noticed an issue but admittedly I really only use my 308 for hunting and I only did load development work when temps were about the average temp that I hunt in (50deg +\-).

DrMike,
Would you mind running g 2 more bullet combos in the 30-06AI? 175lrx @ COAL of 3.547 and the 200lrx at a COAL of 3.675. Both at the same max pressure of 64k and 24” barrel
Thanks in advance
Matt
Aussie, DrMike would have to run the numbers to get exact but I think it would greatly depend on what you meant by the “Standard” 30-06. If you mean stock off the shelf where you have a max COAL of 3.34-3.4 then I’m guessing there would be quite a bit. First a stock gun is likely to have a...
I’m thinking the same thing. Originally I was looking at the 175lrx and the 200AB(if I could ever find any) but as I started down the rabbit hole with the 208 more just out of curiosity.
I was looking at down range velocities with my original guess of 2700. At 5000ft elevation the 208...
Good morning, I was wondering if the barnes 208 LRX is available in QL yet and if so would someone mind running a couple different things through for me. Not really sure what the table is called but the one where gives you the table of approximate max charge for different powders.

I found this a couple years ago, I don’t know how often they update it but the list has definitely grown since I first found it. Lots of great info/testing on defensive rounds. Now this is all towards 2 legged attackers, if your more focused on defensive ammo for bears the probably not a...
That is basically my plan. COVID-19 has put a major damper on my range time. But once everything calms down and we settle into whatever the new normal is I plan on testing the 168s to see if they are stable in my 1in12 twist. If they are, I am going to try pp2000mr. What I have read is...
I’ve never played with etips but I use barnes TTSXs almost exclusively. From what I have read etips like a bit of a jump.
From what I have seen with TTSXs the pressure curve for a given charge seems to be shaped like a bathtub. As you change seating depths off the lands. Really close it...
I have the 2.5-8x36 VX-III on my M70 featherweight and like it a lot but sometimes I wonder if I should have gotten the 3.5-10x40 VX-III. Although I’ve never had an issue, the 40mm obj would allow for a little more light transmission and the 10x would be a little nicer for longer shots but I...
Varget is always a good starting point with the 308. It is extremely temperature stable but produces a little less velocity. CFE223 gives you about 100fps more for any given bullet but is a lot more sensitive to temp fluctuations. I have been hearing great things about Power Pro 2000-MR...
The Partition is a great bullet but are generally much shorter then other bullets in the same weight class. Which may have an affect on accuracy depending on the throat in your rifle... I would suggest either the 165 accubonds or 150 Barnes TTSX.

So I’ve made a couple trips to the range to do some pressure tests.
First trip I loaded up 2 -15 round (1 varget and 1 CFE223) strings with 168gr TTSXs sitting .05 off the lands and a COAL of 2.995. I saw no pressure with the varget string and it topped out at 2743 and the CFE223 showed...

Not caught up with it but it is information that is readily available (given automatically in most trajectory calculators available). To me, comparing momentum between bullet/caliber choices is not an apples to apples comparison without further analysis/estimation. I may be wrong but here is...
I was actually thinking about trying RL17 for the 308, looking at burn rate charts it seems like it burns to slow but it’s have found quite a few people claiming to get good results with it. Also if I can find some, I want to try PP2000MR.

Haven’t gotten anything or made much progress towards making a decision yet.
It’s been about 6 years since I last spent any real time reloading/shooting (moved from east coast to Texas. So I’ve been digging all my stuff out and setting up my bench. I did buy a chronograph (always used my...
All thanks for the replies, You’ve confirmed/backed up what I was thinking and I am really leaning towards ordering the software.
If you don’t mind answering a couple more questions about the program.
The website just says
“More than 1200 cartridges
More than 250 powders
More than 2500...
