So much for the .25-06 being next...

Thanks guys. A few weeks ago I was pretty well decided that my next rifle would be a 25-06. Yesterday, however, I went in to buy a .338-06 off of the used rack after mulling it over for a few days. It had sold. Before leaving this rifle caught my eye. David, I'm not sure what I'm going to...

So much for the .25-06 being next...

Thanks, CC. The antlers were my grandfather's. I haven't had the pleasure of chasing muleys yet.

So much for the .25-06 being next...

I joined two clubs today, those of the Whelen and the No. 1.

How little neck contact can I have?

Does Ruger cut their chambers to include freebore for the Weatherby calibers? If so, maybe you can't get close to the lands by design.

    54987 for the .270

Pat, let us know how it works out for you. I certainly wouldn't be afraid to try some RL-22. I know I've been impressed with it.

    54987 for the .270

Thanks. I gave some thought to the 6.5-280AI. Have you seen a source for dies.. or reamers for that matter? Really, I think the regular 6.5-06 would be enough of a screamer for me, the the 6.5-280 AI would certainly be cool.

    54987 for the .270

Thanks, CC. Reloader 22 is really something in the .270.

    54987 for the .270

The charge for these is 61.0 gr. RL-22 with a COAL of 3.305". I bumped the charge up from 60.5 grains because I thought the cold weather was responsible for the lower velocity I was getting with the AB. Turns out the BT just flies faster than the AB. I'm getting the same MV with the BT at 28 deg...

    54987 for the .270

Thanks guys. This is what makes reloading so rewarding.

    54987 for the .270

I shot one target with the Accubond and one target with the Ballistic Tip today. The fine tuned loads have respective POIs that vary by about an inch at 100 yds. The Ballistic Tip also generates a bit more velocity with the same powder charge. Here are the targets: NBT NAB I think I'm in...

    Cabelas Alaskan Guide Scopes?

The Cabela's Outfitter binos are the rebranded Steiners I was thinking of.

    Cabelas Alaskan Guide Scopes?

Some Asian factory that takes on contracts and produces products to provided specs? The Cabela's Euro line is rebranded Meopta and I believe some of their products (can't remember which) are rebranded Steiners.

    Good Range day!

Looking good. I don't know what I did before I had a my Fat Wrench... actually I do. I over torqued a lot of screws. I never realized how heavy handed I was.

    Konus spotter

No problem, Scotty. It's a great scope for the money... but I don't think it would do so well in a side by side with your spotter.

    Konus spotter

I've used it to watch deer in the fields in the summer, but not for hunting. I really don't have any use for a spotter in the type of hunting I do. As I mentioned, the size and weight of this spotter make it less than ideal for hunting. It does provide a surprisingly useful image in low light at...

    Konus spotter

I've had my Konus 20-60x100 for coming up on a year now and have been nothing but impressed with it. It has allowed me to easily view my targets for the last ten months. I only have two hundred yard ranges at my disposal so I haven't been able to really put it to the test during my range...

    6.8 SPC 85gr Etips

I've had similar thoughts about these and a .270 Win. I've got quite some time before my kids will be ready for centerfires, but I think shooting these out of a .270 would be a great option for a young shooter. I should be able to get recoil near .243 levels with a caliber I'm more comfortable with.

    first SPS order

I placed my first order for Nosler 2nds tonight. The price of .22 cal 55 gr Ballistic Tips went up $5 a box at the local gun shop. That makes swallowing the shipping pretty darn easy. I got a couple of boxes of 130 gr NBTs as well. I guess I'll be hooked now and checking the inventory on a twice...

    338WM day on the range

Nice shooting, Scotty. There'll be no excuses with that rifle. Though I'm not sure I see you putting the Whelen down to actually hunt with it.

    280 loads with rl-22

I think Reloader 22's burn rate is quite a bit slower than IMR 4350. In terms of burn rate I believe 4831 comes in somewhere between 4350 and RL22. I've considered trying RL 22 in my .280 after getting some pretty impressive velocities in my .270. I've got a good load with IMR 4350 though that...
