Guys I did not buy them all at once.....I had a standing order with Bill through the years. Plus friends who stopped hunting sold me their own supplies.
They just reproduced.
Just saw this.Good thread and test Scotty.
People are frequently surprised that the BBC expands so widely, yet still manages to penetrate pretty deeply; maybe not always like a mono but still more than far enough.
Steigers used to tell me this was not only the good design, but if you section...
MPBR is only antiquated if you firmly believe that all animals will stand around at fixed distances while you fiddle with whatever trajectory compensating method you choose to use. Besides it's just like any other sighting method we use in that every one of them involves trajectory manipulation...
A load of 60 gr RL22 gave a 130 NPT 3050 from the 20" barrel of my Ruger 270 UL.
Today as long as I'm starting over I'd probably start with RL23 or H4831.
Scotty yes I've pulled a few 180 gr 30's fired from 300 magnums out of elk. It can be hard to tell them apart sometimes. The 180 just seems to have a bit more base to it.
Below is another view of the same bullet showing the base, which you can see started to cave in from the stress of impact...
35 that's hilarious! You just don't get that anywhere but northern Maine LOL!
I love it!
From the conversation sounds like they snow tracked that buck?
I haven't loaded and hunted much with the 30/06 other than the 165 Nosler partition since the 1980's and it's still true today. I've used or seen them used on whitetail, mule deer, elk and black bear.
I've also used them on the same stuff driven almost 3250 from a 300 Win Mag. There is nothing...
35: Post up all you want! (y) When a guy has killed 16 over 200 pounds from Maine he has lived a lifetime of hunting well spent and hard earned. Those are beauties!
When I kill a Maine buck that dresses over 200 I tell everybody! I know how hard it is. I tip my cap to you. Very well done...
35: You are correct. The property did have a good population of mature bucks. But surprisingly the 1st and 3rd bucks on the pole were what the meat cutter thought were 3.5 years old....yes the one with the largest rack that gross scored over 160 was a 3.5 year old animal.
So was mine.
This is...
35 Whelen: Thanks! I think you are really going to enjoy Kansas. It's a lot different from Maine, although both are great.
Scotty coulda sworn you had seen these.....I guess not LOL!
Another photo from Maine. (For some reason photo bucket was not well behaved yesterday). This is my buck, killed first morning.
I'd post a picture of a recovered bullet but it was a 130 NPT,so all it left was an exit.
Kansas was a lot of fun last year! My first time there.Lots of deer and quite a few bucks, including several that I passed up bigger than what I killed. But that's trophy hunting some times!
I was invited back for 2016,so have a better handle on what to expect. Fabulous state and the best...
