Thanks to all. Nice to be over here. I had no idea you guys were having so much fun over here with the Mashburn ! (y)
Les I'm glad the FL dies worked for you. I keep saying the case is "easy"....seems you guys are seeing that. I'm watching the loads and they all seem to be pretty much in line...
For a once in a lifetime, hard to draw mule deer tag, I agree with this. But the 7 Rem mag has always been one of my favorites.
Good luck, great permit draw!
SJB: That would be correct. Bill Steigers did not make a 132 7mm for sale to the public. The 270-130's started out as 132 7mm's and were swaged down to .277.
A couple of his clients asked him to make a 130 7mm for use in the 7/08 and 7x57. I was one of those clients, and the other is a close...
Page and Hagel got me interested in the cartridge; Dober pushed me over the edge
Les people I have heard from using the 150 seem to be loading it to a bit over 3250,or about 100 fps faster than a top load with the 150 gr in the 7 Rem Mag. This makes sense to me as the two Mashburns we...
I had a very nice custom 270 on a pre 64 M70 action, built by Dale Goens. It had a 22" Douglas barrel and gave a bit over 3000 fps (Oehler chronograph) with 58.5 gr H4831 and 150 gr Nosler Partition. This is the old Jack O,Connor load.
The first day I chonographed that load, I also did a couple...

I've shot out a couple of 270 barrels using RL22. It works great in the 270,and it's always a toss up between that and H4831 with 130 gr bullets.
I have not yet tried RL23 but it should be great.
I like to use the Federal 215 mag primer with RL22 in the 270.
The last 160 BBC I used on game was a bull elk in Wyoming and from a 7 rem Mag at 3080 mv. Shot was from behind and above at about 200 yards, over the shoulders into the back of the neck. It ground up a lot of muscle and vertebrae for a substantial length of the neck along the way. We found it...
This sounds about right.
A 300 yard zero will have too much mid range with a 30/06-150.
Zeroed 3" high at 100,impact will be zeroed at about 250,about 5" low at 300 yards....I have generally gotten about 16" of drop at 400 at my range but 18" sounds close enough depending on the bullet. The...
I've used quite a few 270 bullets over the years but I guess my safe haven is the 130 Nosler Partition.
I like something cheaper for shooting practice and use Speers and Sierra's for that.
SJB358: Thank you as well! Very good thread here.
The 7mm Mashburn Super is still a great cartridge, even by todays standards.
The new 28 Nosler sounds like a real bomb, and is another in a very long line of 7mm magnums we have to choose from today.
The 7mm/300 Weatherby would, of course, be similar to the 7mm STW. Both are pretty much based on full length 300 H&H brass blown out and necked to 7mm.
Actually, both Art Mashburn and Bob Hagel worked with similar 7mm cartridges,Hagel the 7mm/300 Weatherby, and Mashburn with the 300 H&H left...
