308 Winchester 165 gr Solid Base Whitetail Country

Tough bullet! Looks like a penatrator to me.

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

I borrowed my 30-06 to a buddy at a game farm about 25 years ago and he shot a huge Russian boar. No idea on the weight but it was huge. I would say it was way over a couple hundred pounds. He 180 grain Accubond I had loaded up. That pig literally lifted off the ground and slammed to the...

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

Used the .308 180’s in my 30-06 at 2650 fps load data. Don’t know what the time if that was for a 24 or 26 inch barrel but I was shooting it out of a 22 inch. I also did a max load in my 375 rum with the 260 grain versions. I still have some of the 260’s left. I assume I have some of the 180s as...

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

Curious of where your shot placement is, high shoulder I’m guessing? All mine ran a football field length with heart and lung broadside shots. A high shoulder hit and they dropped but normally need to be finished off.

Did it get caught in one of the rear quarter leg bones?

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

I’m curious to what what your shot placement was, how far the shot was, the muzzle velocity, and why it stopped inside the animal? I’ve never caught any .308 diameter bullets in deer throughout the decades accept for a a couple of completely disintegrated Sierra 150 grain boat tails that...

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

I would guess if I switched from 180 grain to 130 grain in .308 there would be a much more different outcome. I would assume I’d get some quick expansion and energy dump with a lot lighter projectile pushed much faster. Just not willing to take that chance after the poor experiences I’ve had...

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

That’s why I don’t like accubonds. They don’t open up and dump enough energy for a DRT unless you brake shoulders. Fifty yards is too far for me. I’ve shot hundreds of deer with a plain old 180 grain core loct and 99.9% drop on their tracks. Had a few travel 15 to 20 yards at the most. Shot...

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

The 180 Sierras that I have I have about 1250 of the round nose pro hunters. I think I have a few boxes of the 150s as well. They came from an estate sale. I think I have some 150 pointed and 165 pointed to with the boat tails. Sierra basically told me to stay away from the boat tail versions...

30 cal 180gr Ballistic Tip Vs 165gr Ballistic Tip

I thought Nosler only went through two different design changes with the ballistic tip? I know they’ve changed the pictures on the boxes, but the actual design just went from the original thin jacket to the current one, which is thicker going towards the base with a nice thick base now. If...

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

To me it just all depends on the particular bullet brand and the bullet construction. I know when I was a kid my dad used to buy boxes of Remington core locks for my 30-06 and it was whatever was on the shelf at the time. Whether it be 150, 165, or 180 grain ammo they all downed deer in their...

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

My average rifle shot in the Deer woods is normally within archery range so I like the 180s to make sure they hold together and get an exit every time. I guess if I lived out west and I could shoot a country mile or two I’d want something flatter. A 150 yards is a super long shot for me...

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

The current style .308 180 grain ballictic tip will put deer down so fast out of my 30-06 i think i missed them a few times

    165gr vs 180gr Partition

Imo you don’t need a partition for any deer on the planet! I tried the same rotten Sierras out of my 30-06 in 150 grain. They go in and they don’t come out and deer run without blood trails for a good 60 plus yards. A 180 grain version in anything is going to do you good for deer. I’ve used 180...

Necking up 270 Winchester brass to 35 Whelen?

Yeah, I don’t think it would’ve been a problem either but I just figured be better to start with 30 at six brass since I’m only “upsizing” one time to try and keep my case necks as thick as possible.

308 Win 180 grain Norma Bondstrike

Yeah, I just checked their website again and they don’t have any but they’re basically an even trade if they were in stock for the credit they’re gonna give me. Darn it!

308 Win 180 grain Norma Bondstrike

Man, that’s an awesome mushroom. Reminds me of what the old sciroccos used to do before they screwed them up and made them thicker. Too bad Norma doesn’t have anything in stock on their website to replace my undersize 350 eights. I’d be all over them. They only list two bond strikes for loose...

    Midway factory seconds

Good to hear I trust Nosler more than I trust any other brand. The hornady second I had were .001” undersized but so were the same bullets in a brand new box I had from them
