Midway factory seconds

This is my thought. Do they only make seconds?
My guess is that these are seconds from runs of loaded ammunition. They make X thousand of a type for loading or for selling to a manufacturer, and there are bound to be QC issues with some of them.

Nosler does not knowingly release defective bullets. They have a reputation to maintain. As Kinley Water suggests, many are overruns for those sold to other companies who load their bullets. Many come with cannelures which are for that purpose. I have used the seconds (blemished bullets) for years, tested them by weighing and shooting, and have never found a difference between them and firsts except in price. Also they usually come in bags instead of a box. I received 200 today. I can't speak for Midway's seconds as I have not used them. Everything I have purchased from Midway has been satisfactory.

Has anybody ever measured the diameter of the seconds? I had some that were undersize not too long ago, but they were a different manufacturer’s seconds. I do have some Nosler seconds but haven’t loaded any.

I have measured and weighed Nosler seconds for correctness and consistency and did the same for firsts for comparison. In a recent article in Handloader, they did the same and shot both. Like me they found no difference.
I’ve done the same.
I can’t tell the difference at all.
Also, I’m not loading for precision accuracy, I’m loading for hunting purposes.
I do try to make as accurate a cartridge as possible and I’m very happy with my loads out to my personal limits of 300 yards, and the accubonds have been doing a fine job when I deliver them at their target, performing just as they’re supposed to.

Good to hear I trust Nosler more than I trust any other brand. The hornady second I had were .001” undersized but so were the same bullets in a brand new box I had from them
