My .300 liked .100 thou jump as well, that was definitely the sweet spot on my rifle, more and less jump made it into a scatter gun, but .100 though made respectable groups.
Some might say I'm a bit bias, but, I say a .300 Win. Mag. And H1000 is hard to beat. Nosler brass is good stuff, it's what I use, you can find lapua brass for it if you really hunt it down and are willing to pay the price, and Norma brass is also available. I shoot 215gr. Berger Hybrids out of...
Snuck out to shoot for a little bit for the first time in a long time. Shot a group at 100 to get the cob webs out, it's been months since I've shot last. Not my best but .506" at 100 for 5 shots; I'll take that all day with a win mag and 215gr bullet at 2,991 fps. So I stretched her out to 688...
Got a new toy today, well the wife did (that's how I was allowed to buy it)
Savage 93R17TR
Put a cabelas 3-12 scope with LR reticle on it, should make making longer shots pretty simple.
Looking forward to shooting it. This is my first savage and first 17HMR
Well, it's been a while since I've been able to go out shooting or check in at my favorite forum. These past few months have been extremely busy for me. Finally tied the knot with the fiancé, relocated and got settled in to new jobs and welcomed in our first addition to our family! Not a human...
I've had great luck with 180 BT's & AB's using noslers recommended loads. Killed a few elk with them both. My barrel is a 1-12" twist, velocity was right at 2700fps with a 24" bbl
Fwiw, I shoot that bullet outta a strait win mag and get excellent accuracy, half MOA at 800? Last time out. I use H1000 and seat them 0.015" off the lands, MV is 3,000 per magneto and 28" Hart.
Taken a pile of elk with the .308 Winchester, from 7 yards, 100, 150, 305, 502 and the farthest I shot one with the 7.62 was 643, that was pushing it with that round and 168 TSX. Luckily it was a high shoulder shot, just under the spine and dropped her DRT. Expansion was minimal to say the least.
Very cool rifle!! Time to stretch its legs! Good choice on throating as well, you might look at the Berger Hybrids to toy with, or maybe even the 178gr Hornady ELD bullet.
Awesome buck! I'd bet he's around 180", if not a tad more. I've got a buddy that had a similar experience with a Barnes and muley, his was out of a 7-08 though.
McMillan for sure! I love wood stocks, but in my opinion, wood stocks belong on trap and skeet gums, not hunting rifles and shotguns. I'd do stainless for sure, but if it were an extended hunt, i'd do a titanium cerekote on the action and barrel. One thing I'd do as well is keep a light coating...
