I have my dad's Remington 700 in .300 Win Mag now and I want to bed it. I'm going to use devcon steel bedding and I'm really comfortable with the process but I'm wondering if pillar bedding would be absolutely necessary. I've never done a wood stock before so I have no idea.
There is a thread going on over at snipers hide about this right now. Maybe it can help you decide.

I'm trying to get a couple more. They're so much fun and can be reasonably accurate. I think it will stick around. There's so many I don't understand why they're around $1000 outside of the cmp. I'd rather wait and get something that is what is said, especially now that some are over 70...
They had a Nemo Omen chambered in 26 Nosler at the booth today. What a rifle! I believe it will also be chambered in their own rifles (Obviously) but I don't know if Remington or Winchester will be chambering rifles. I can stop by tomorrow and ask if you'd like.
I think the .376 Steyr is under some serious consideration. I might just ditch the short barrel idea and go for a 7mm wsm.
Or I can just write all the options down and throw darts and build whatever I hit.
After a little bit of reading on the 375 wsm, I came across the 376 Steyr. Seems to be pretty good performance out of a shorter barrel. What are your thoughts on that cartridge?
Mike I would love a 375 or a .416. I'd like to use something with minimum brass forming. Maybe the 10.57 maverick, launching 400 grain PTs at 2450 would be trouble for anything on the wrong side of that barrel. I wonder if an EOTech or Aimpoint could stand up to the recoil.
I wouldn't be upset with 30-06 performance. The main reason for this is that I have an intermediate length action. I was going for handier than my 300 win mag and more punch than my 308 Win. Maybe a 350 rem mag would be a better option.
I'm considering building a WSM on an intermediate length zastava mauser action. I'm considering the 270, 7mm, and the 300 but it's going to come down to which maintains the most performance at shorter barrel. I think my max barrel length will be 20 inches. Which cartridge do you all think...
