The "good" news is this is a long term project. Nothing I have to decide quickly.
I may go 9.3x62. I may go 338-06. I may go 375 Whelen.
I've just always felt the 400 Whelen is cool and something I'd enjoy having....so maybe it'll just come down to that. Who knows... ;)
I was out today doing likewise... I have my 3 of the 4 rifles I want ready for Nov 30 done and ready.
The last is a new-to-me 308 M70 Fwt that is my daughter's hunting rifle. It's not far from being done, I don't think. I'm hoping the next trip (tomorrow evening) may finalize what load we'll...
I may hit you up with an email about air rifles....because that's on my radar now, too.
I've been looking at the 375 Hawk Scovill too...that's an interesting one. Or maybe a more "mainstream" round in the 338-06...?
When I had my 30-06 M70 bored out, I was back and forth between the 338-06...
Thanks all! Love the ideas!
Add in the mix that I have a Model 70 in 35 Whelen.
I’d like to put a little space around that one with whatever I do with this new project.
I love the 400 Whelen idea, but I may be more a fan of the 375 Whelen just for bullet availability...?
Who knows at this...
Soooooo.......A friend just hooked me up with a 1903A3 sporter he got at an estate auction.
$90 out the door.
This whole idea may become more real than I thought.... ;)
I went rifle shopping for my daughter, and she's not into handloading, so I wanted something that she'd be able to buy ammo readily for once I was no longer supplying her with handloads.
I settled on the 308 Winchester.
Did pretty good using Zwift and my indoor bike trainer and treadmill in the winter....up through June.
Worked up to running 13.5 miles on a bike path (not much elevation change) and hilly road runs of 7-ish miles. Summer is the hectic time for me at work. Been getting in some miles on the bike...
So a certain retired Marine convinced me of the merits of a Sig P365 back in Feb.
Due to his bad influence...er...advice, I snagged a little 365 and immediately fell in love with the little bugger. It shoots really well for me, and carries just as well.
So, even though I have two 10mm Glocks...
Also... I have a literal problem with the common use of the word “literally”.
“I was literally dying.”
You’re alive. You did not literally die.
Anyway... there’s my one big gripe. I’m sure there’s more, but you guys hit most of the big ones.
I have a TLR-1 on my 20, and it was on my 40. They are nice lights.
I went with KT Mech for my holster, and I got their Akela model with level 2 retention, and molded to fit the TLR-1. I really like that setup.
Hey fellas.....been a while since I was here. No excuses. Just sorta got out of the habit. I'll try to turn up more often, although maybe that's not a good thing, lol.
So I have inbound a new-to-me M70. I know, odd for me, right?
This one is a departure from my big game rifle norm, though...
I didn't dislike pheasant hunting, but once I had my own dogs and started working with them, it brought a whole other level to it. My younger lab is actually a pointer, so that is a cool plot twist.
Pennsylvania just legalized (this season) leashed blood tracking dogs for big game recovery, so...
