I am curious if anyone has quickload about an estimate of pressure. I was very surprised that 88.5gr of RL33 didn't show any pressure signs in the gun. COAL is 3.69" Berger 195gr bullet. Velocity shown at that load was about 3100fps.
I'll see if I can get dad to measure h2o capacity on a fired...
There was a post on the rifle in the rifle forum. It is a defiance deviant hunter action with a bartlein barrel 1:8 twist at 26".

Got out with my dad to go shoot the new gun smell off his custom rifle.
Loads were as follows:
Nosler brass
Federal 215 primer
RL33
Berger 195gr
COAL 3.69"
Started at 87.6 grains and worked up to 88.5 grains.
Gun shoots like a dream....Nathan's beast brake works awesome and recoil is...
Try H4350 or IMR 4451. I shoot 42gr of IMR 4451 behind a 140 Berger in my 260 and get 2817fps.
As Scott said RL17 has good velocity.....never tried it myself though.

I will post a range report on Tuesday hopefully. Planning on driving over and helping him with load testing. I can't wait to see what it'll do!

I like it in front personally. Can still see it from shooting position and it doesn't block the markings on the parallax knob.

My dad just received his first custom rifle. He didn't spare any expenses and in my opinion it turned out awesome!
Can't wait to get out and help him with load testing!
Specs are:

For what it's worth....Bryan Litz measured the G7 BC of the 142 at 0.293. I would try that number in your ballistics solution and you should be pretty close to what you'll see in real world conditions.
I wouldn't worry too much about that....I've pushed that bullet over 4000 fps and it was fine. Of course that was a 1:14 twist barrel I suppose a 1:8 twist would probably put more stress on it. But it is always fun to find out!
I might be talking out my rear end....but I seem to remember something about the speer TNT having a maximum velocity due to the extremely thin and fluted jackets? Running them at 3600+ perhaps they are starting to come apart causing inconsistent point of impact? Might be something to look into....
What is the typical distance of your shots? Are you a shoulder puncher, high shoulder, behind the shoulder lung shot? Bullet choice depends a lot on the hunter and what type of shots they plan on/are willing to take and at what distance. If you are the typical hunter that plans on engagement...
There is a very handy stability calculator on the Berger website. Can plug in your bullet dimensions and atmospheric data. And if you are interested in learning Bryan Litz has some very interesting reading on bullet dynamics and has recently done some very interesting stuff with twist and...
