Most of the rifles that I have tried the E-tip and the Barnes in have been Weatherbys so I have not been able to get them remotely close to the lands. The guns that I load for have taken one Blacktail, two elk and well over a dozen antelope with the Barnes or the E-tip. I don't think that game...
I am in the same boat as you. The E-tips work well. If the E-tip doesn't work out for you, Barnes also has a LRX bullet with an exceptional BC that has shot well in a few different rifles. Hopefully the lead free crap doesn't hit northern Ca until about 2019--then I will be out of here. Good...
I agree with SJB358. I had a Leupold range finder that worked fairly well within two hundred yards. Beyond that though, I had difficulty ranging unless I had something stable to rest the range finder especially when I was excited. I used a Leica that one of the guides had one season. The...
Thank you. The only thing that would have made this trip better would have been to have my oldest son with me when I shot the buck. He has been on a lot of deer hunting hikes and have been close to a lot of does but never a buck. He was disappointed to not have been there for the kill. I...
Great idea. We have the same problem in Ca especially during August archery season when temps run 90's to 100. I am feeling inspired to try to do the same for next year. Good luck. Hope to see meat hanging soon.
Three weeks off has recharged by battery. I always look forward to the Wy trip with the family. This year was a little different in that I had a Nosler Profession in .280 AI that needed to be blooded. My wife and I took 6 antelope (2 bucks and four does) during our hunt in Gillette. The night...
Thanks guys. I am very much looking forward to taking the Nosler rifle in 280 AI with 160 ABs and blooding her. I hope that my son is with me when I find the big Mulie. He has only seen smallish deer up till now. We have been shooting up in the hills every day that we are off whacking milk...
My family and I leave for the land of Fotis! This will be my fourth year hunting for antelope up by Gillette. After finishing the antelope hunt, we head for norther Ca up by Alturas for mule deer. The wife and kids will be with me for the first three days of mule deer then I have 6 days on my...
Curious to know how many of you still have your first fire-arm(s). My first was a Winchester 70 xtr in 30-06. Received her for my 12th Christmas. No scope no recoil pad, she pummeled me unmercifully. My dad was pretty much a hard arse. I had the distinct feeling that if I complained I would...
I have seen the writing on the wall when the lower 1/3 of the state were banned from using lead. This is part of the reason that I shoot so many Barnes and E-Tips.
There are numerous people such as myself who would love to oust the "(expletives deleted)." But, there are just as many (probably...
Guy, I have a Sako 75 synthetic stainless in 300 WSM. The TGR and the 75 are within 1/8 of a pound of each other. The only time I don't enjoy shooting the WSM is about the third shot from prone with a 180 g AB. Other than the prone position, I can shoot the WSM for extended periods without...
