Woods mirrored my response exactly. Besides ironing out any dents, it also keeps neck tension consistent from first firing and so on and so on. Though after a few firings necks will need to be annealed to retain the same amount of spring back.
If I want more or less neck tension on the...
With the 130 AB and Rel 22 I could get in up to 49 gr for 2951 fps in my factory Rem 24" barrel with 1.5", 3-shot accuracy. Didn't make the cut for me as my rifle had too many loads that went 1 MOA and under.
Alan
NV,
I have absolutely no doubt their is a faster difference in the ballistics of any bullet over long range distances due to higher altitude/reduced barometric pressure. I just don't know what to say about the velocity being higher between the muzzle and a chronograph, 10-15' away. I think...
Scotty,
The LBT's worked great. Never did find any bullets, so I don't know if they went all the way through of ended up on some local Eskimo's dinner plate.
Alan
Recoil is do-able, especially if your wearing gloves of some sort.
That little double is my upland laser. It's a Webley & Scott Screw-Grip BLE made about 1896. It's choked .010" and .023" (IC and Mod). It was retailed by Manton of London (on the barrels) 2-1/2" chambers, 30" barrels; long...
700x is a great powder in 45.
For serious hunting I really like Veral Smith's LBT cast bullets. I cast my own. If your not in to casting YET 8) then I'd get them from Montana Bullet Works. He makes great stuff and uses real LBT molds, unlike Cast Performance Bullets...
My BIG Surgeon with the 130 VLD has burned out enough to where their about 2.800". The little Pierce with the 140 VLD's are 2.720". I just haven't shot enough to burn out the throat as much as I have the Surgeon. In addition, I seat the 130's about .010" in and the 140's about .020" out as...

Not too much difference.
- Lapua vs Hornady brass = Known/better quality with Lapua but I'm sure some may differ in opinions.
- small vs large primer pockets = ability to run higher pressures in Lapua brass
Alan
NV,
Please explain. I too am around 4500-4900' elev when I run my chronograph. I'm having a hard time understand how the "thinner" air between the muzzle and chronographs, 10'-15', can have a significant increase upon velocity. I believe it does when shooting way out yonder.
Alan
RMarshall,
Same here. I've found H414 works well with the 140 MK. Several bullets like R19 but darned if I could get the 130 AB to work with Rel 19, Rel 22 or H4831sc.
With the 125 PT, my rifle liked H4350 and H1000.
Did not try the InterBonds but the 129 InterLocks like Rel 19.
Alan
Fox,
I run two 6.5x47's.
The first, my BIG, rifle is built on a Surgeon action, 26" MTU Krieger 1:8.5, AICS stock, NF 5.5-22x50mm.
My load is 40.8 gr H4350, CCI 450 and 130 VLD, .010" into the lands. It runs 2850 down to 2820 fps, depending upon throat wear and temps. I've run about 1300...
RMarshall,
I've yet to try Rel 17 in my 260 Rem as I already have around one dozen+ loads that are MOA and better using other powders.
However, I do use it in one of my 6.5x47 Lapua's and it's fantastic. Also, I've only tested 140 class bullets in it; 140 PT, AB and VLD; 34 to 43.5 gr. I hit...
