    280 Remington 160 Gr Loads

    A friend complained of this same thing on two deer. 7mag 150gn BTs federall factory load. Deer were between 100-150yds. Both ran at shot, no, or almost no, blood trail and were found within 50-60yds. We hunt in the South Texas brush, so a blood trail, even if the deer only goes 50yds, is a big...

    Solid base vs Ballistic tip

    Other than the polly tip, and maybe a little more weight to the rear, is there any noticable difference in the performance on game in these two bullets. It seems that the SB might be a little tougher, but that is just a perception with nothing to base it on. thanks, capt david :lol: :lol: :lol:

    What do you aim for?

    On meat deer, I try for double lung. If I can't get it I usually pass. On a trophy I'll try for a shoulder, as it gives me the largest target and I'm not as worried about loosing meat. Hogs are a different story. As opposed to right behind the shoulder, as with deer, I shoot them right in...

    Any "Pet Loads" For The 7x57?

    Not to bee too critical, but if you lost the deer, how do you know it was the bullet? I prefer a 150gn PT using 48.5gn H4350 at around 2700fps for pigs and deer, but would use a BT if deer were the only game. capt david

    Sporter barrels- What can you REALLY expect?

    I've often wondered about these claims for basic sporting rifles that cost under $1000 and only have simple modifications such as trigger jobs and bedding. I see many clain sub 1/2" groups. I wonder if these are three or five shot. I also wonder how many would take this bet, using sand...

    7x57, H4350, 150 gr BT's and PT's

    150PT, 48.5gn H4350, CCI 200, RP brass. It shoots around 2700fps. It''s my go to deer/pig load. The PT opens fast enough on heart/lung deer and will penetrate both shoulders of a big pig if needed. I'd use the BT if only hunting deer. capt david

    .280AI ????

    Here is what I understand. 1. It is now at SAAMI, waiting on testing. 2. It will be loaded to higher pressure than the original 280, probably close to 270 3. I don't know, but assume that brass will be avaliable because they will be making it for loaded ammo. 4. If I had to guess it should be...

    for nosler!!! 280AI, I'm checking in!!!

    It is my understanding that the new Nosler Rifle is a 280AI. It is also my understanding that Nosler will legitimize it with SAAMI. I have heard that it has been sent to SAAMI for this process. As you can see, Noslers silence is deafining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! capt david

    for nosler!!! 280AI, I'm checking in!!!

    You said to check in. Is the 280AI any closer to becoming a SAAMI approved cartridge yet. capt david :lol: :lol:

    What year is it? See below, it's been doing the job for 100years. I think 100years from now it'l still do the job. capt david

    Primers....good & bad

    I have always used cci 200s. John barnsness did a test using different primers. Those happened to be the most consistent pressure wise. I believe the WLR was the worst with very large pressure variencies. maybe as much as 5000-6000 psi. It was in either Handloader or Rifle. It is also my belief...

    Will the 280AI have SAAMI specs and be 'registered' to Nosler as a propiratory cartridge? Thanks, capt david

    300 Winn Mag and Whitetails

    IMHO any 30cal above a moderately loaded 308 win is over kill for any deer at under 300 yds. If you want to hunt with it OK, but it's not needed. Sometimes I use my 30-06 with 165gn PTs @2800. The meat damage doesn't seem to be too bad. Why don't you get a 7-08, or 260 and save both your and the...

    7mmMauser = .280Rem

    We had leases there for 7-8 years. We have been under drought conditions. I think the gene pool is still here, but over hunting and poor fawn crops have reduced the herds. only the really large ranches without small leases around them and the high fenced areas seem to be producing now. capt...

    7mmMauser = .280Rem

    You got it!!!! There is no difference in performance if you reload! Pick the gun that you like/fits you best. I know some claim higher velocities with the '57 because it holds slightly more powder. I haven't found that to be true. Like I said, If you'r talking about under 300yds or so their is...

    7mmMauser = .280Rem

    :? I'll give you the semi-long answer. To me one of the classic rifles of all time is a '98 Mauser in 7x57. I looked for a comercial 98 in 7x57 for a long time. After 8yrs I found a FN.It shoots around 1.25" with decent H/L. It is my favorite gun for pigs and deer. My 7-08 is a heavy barrel...

    7mmMauser = .280Rem

    I own a comercial FN 98 in 7x57 and a 26" barrel 7-08 700VL. I shoot 139-140 reloads in both around 2800fps, and 150 PTs about 2700. My longest kill to date is a 135lb feral goat around 300yds. I also shoot 139 Light Mags @ 2980fps out of the 7-08. This should about equal a 280. I don't...

    Have I got this right?

    Nosler's philosophy is that a bullet should have some frangibility and that all of their bullets are expected, even designed to loose some lead? I am shooting 150gn in a 7x57 and 165gn in a 30-06 The BTs are suppose to loose the most weight, and are designed to operate at between 2000 and 2700...

    Why doesn't Nosler list H4350?

    This is a very popular powder for two of my favorites the 7x57 and 30-06. I am intrested in information on loading 150 PTs in the 7mm and 165s both BTs and PTs in the '06. Both of these guns are FN commercial mausers. Why no info from Nosler with H4350? capt david :cry: :cry: :?: :lol: :lol:
