A buddy of my dad’s wife used a savage 340 in 30-30 my whole childhood. It was a pretty accurate rifle and accounted for many whitetails over the years. I think you will enjoy that rifle.
I think if I did it again I would probably go with 3 or even 4 filters per bucket. It takes several hours to filter all 5 gallons. I had done 2 so I would have two spare filters.
it definitely wouldn’t be a bad idea for an emergency situation to have one at the house.
We didn’t have...
Clean water on these longer hunting trips is always a concern. A lot of the commercial water treatment pellets don’t taste great. I found some DIY plans to make a Berkey style water filter out of 5 gallon buckets. Filters I got on Amazon for 53 dollars for 4 filters. The buckets and lids...
I’ve run that 350gr Speer in my 458 Lott at 2780fps. Accuracy has been great and from what I’ve seen of them used by others on Alaskan Gabe it’s a very effective bullet even at higher velocity. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it on any North American big game
We spent 8 days out near chicken. Over 130 miles covered on the SXS, miles glassed. Only saw two moose the day before season started. The caribou are hanging up in zone 1 so nothing in the area we were in.
With the lack of moose being seen we decided to regroup and head to another area...
Got everything loaded up for 20 days out moose hunting. Just about everything is on the menu caribou, bears of any color, wolves, small game and moose. I have a 10 hour drive and then another 3 hours in the SXS to where we will be hunting.
Hopefully I’ll have some great pictures for...
Congrats, hopefully you didn’t mess your skull up too badly. A euro bear skull is a really nice trophy. Now you will have some fine eating. My favorite things to do with bear is Al pastor style in a vertical spit or canned with jalapeño slices in garlic and southwest seasoning. It also...
Pretty clever setup. I have a rubber wedge shaped gun holder that buckles into the middle seat for my ranger 1000 high lifter. You lose the seat but it’s very secure and works well even with longer barrels. It’s almost like a car seat for your gun. If you zoom in you can see it in the...
I figured 22” was probably a bare minimum for any kind of effective burn. I will have to check and see if there is enough meat to that thin barrel to do 5/8x24 threading. Barrel diameter might be the deciding factor on length or even if I do it at all.
A buddy of mine has a weatherby mk v weathermark bronze in 340 weatherby than I’m seriously considering snatching up. I’ve been thinking I needed a magnum medium bore with longer legs than my 21” barreled 338 win. I used to have a 338 rum that was an absolute hammer. I have a bunch of 338...
In one month I’ll have been here 20 years! I’m not able to be as active as some of you guys but I sure do appreciate this group. I’ve come to rely on the advice from all you.
I almost feel like I know several of you.
