I have been loading the Hornady 140 grain Boat tail in the Weatherby for a few years, and it just plain works. I have no problems with it on elk at 400+ yards. They fall over real fast. I load the 150 partitions as well, but really can't see any difference in performance. With either they are...
That will be one sweet set up, JD. I had them installed on one target scope years ago and loved them. Unfortunately a buddy liked it better than I did when he pulled out his wallet. What are you going to be putting it on?
I had excellent results with the IMR 4831. I couldn't get the accuracy that I wanted until they were loaded warm. The H 4831 also worked extremely well for me.
I miss being able to hike for miles and carry a pile of weight. My back break really slowed me down, and it is getting worse. I am restricted to lifting no more than 20 pounds now. I am scheduled for another MRI to see what is going on. My legs work when they feel like it. Some days, I can't...
Congrats on the elk. I'm not a fan of neck shots either. Engine room ensures a good bleed out if you mash the heart and or lungs. A spinal hit drops anything right now, but the animal doesn't bleed out. Too much room for error on a neck shot, and I am too old to be chasing a critter into the...
I have loaded the 120 hot core for a lot of years. Never a failure, and rarely recover one. I also load them for a buddy, and he uses them for elk and moose with great results. Excellent bullet and accurate.
I have pulled lots of them, recharged the case and seated bullets without running the case through the die. Worked great. If it was crimped, then I would run them through the sizing die.
I have owned quite a few #1's and liked them all, but the Weatherby bug overcame them. I wouldn't have any qualms about getting more of the Rugers at all, if I needed them.
I invest in neck sizers for all of my toys. Problem is solved once they are set up. I also anneal all of my brass and trim to .005 under actual chamber. This has worked well for me for 50 years. Yeah, I know, us bench rest and silhouette shooters are a fickle bunch. I tired the other route, but...
I tried a jug of the re22 in my Weatherbys. Accuracy was ok, but I am going back to IMR 7828. Greater velocity with less pressure, and accuracy is very good. Less difference in lot to lot as well. The 270 prefers to be loaded warm, and shoots frozen rope. All elk, deer, moose and bear are one...
I have used the Speer Hot Cores for a long time. They perform flawlessly on game and the ones that I have been lucky enough to recover have mushroomed beautifully. They are a great cup and core bullet.
Glad that you are feeling better. The 375 is the best all round caliber there is IMO. Stay away from the 375 and 38 55 Winchester bullets. I tried some 255 grain 38 55 and they are a grenade at H&H velocity. I found that the 270 grain bt and the 300 grain worked great for everything from...
