A less than satisfying trip to the range

You are correct that some guns don't like some bullets. The 180 ttsx is a really long bullet and for me more finicky than the 168ttsx. The 168 being a mono is all the bullet a 300 win would ever need. If you've got a buddy that reloads maybe you could split a few boxes of ttsx and partitions...

Virgin or Once Fired Brass for hunting

Anytime I work w/ new brass I shoot a 5 shot test group before loading more. If they shoot great the rest get loaded and my mind is at ease!

    Heavy bolt lift??

Dubyam....I see what you mean but would still rather see him making small adjudtments. The manufacturers of dies and shellholders make them so that beginners can't get themselves in too much trouble pushing shoulders back too far. The problem like we have here is that a few thousands change on...

    How accurate is Quickload?

Sjb...the reason ql has trouble w/rums and wbys is the freebore in those rifles. Its just like adding case capacity. The nice thing is you will be mild in results and can go in and adjust ql upward after your first chrono reading. It is a cool tool....for sure. I probably like it most not for...

    Heavy bolt lift??

A quarter turn on a sizing die is an awful lot. I think a full turn is about .072"? I put witness marks on my die threads and the lock ring w/a marker or dab of paint. Start with the marks lined up on ea. Move them about 1/4" and you'll have a change of about .004" which should be perfect for...

    Heavy bolt lift??

Hey Rice Lake...what are the dimensions to mid shoulder on other once fired brass that does chamber...this is where you need to get the shoulders on the offending brass. You may have to sand/grind the top of a shellholder so you can continue the quest adjusting your die downward. I have several...

    Heavy bolt lift??

This is where I beg people to spend $35 on a hornady head space checking kit. You'll know the dimensions of your brass before firing, after firing, after sizing. For now my recommendation would be to use a rcbs press that can toggle over or shave about. 004 off the top of your current shell...

    How accurate is Quickload?

My wife got me ql for xmas many years ago. Its one of the best presents I've ever got. Been updating and enjoying it ever since. I could load w/out ql but now that I have it I use it all the time along w/manuals. Bottom line is if $150 is tight on the budget...skip it. If you deserve a $150...

    Winchester 30-06 brass

That neck thickness matches what I see in win 308 brass. I have a fairly tight 708 factory chamber in the neck area and being 708 brass is hard to find I use win brass to downsize w/no troubles w/neck thickness Some say win brass isn't what it used to be but w/the extra room in win brass, the...

    Winchester 30-06 brass

Just checked factory ammo and its .334. Did some digging and found some unloaded 1x fired shells. The wall thickness in the neck area hovers around. 0135". In short...I don't think you'll find brass LESS likely than win for needing turning.

    Quick sizing question

Regarding spring back that was quite a scientific lecture. All I can add is that ALL my experience indicates far LESS spring back on new or annealed brass. I always have to raise my sizing die after annealing or the shoulders push down and stay there. On work hardened brass the opposite is the...

    best scope?

Fwiw....here is a good review on the swfa...i do like that reticle! Something to be said for simplicity of fixed power too...think I gotta get me one! http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthread ... ost8576323

    best scope?

Here's a pretty incredible scope for the $. One of the most experienced 1000 yd 308 shooters at 24 hour campfire picked up a couple of these and loves it. The reticle gets him to 1000 w/o touching a turret. This scope gets rave reviews on other sites too. Click on the lower left of the page to...

Tru Tool...concentricity fixer and .......annealing advisor.

That is phenominal oldtrader! Dr Vette...think you'll like this little gadget. I was a little neutral at first but the more I tinkered the more I liked!

Tru Tool...concentricity fixer and .......annealing advisor.

Yup...I was skeptical at how accurate you could "model" alignment but w/a little practice its pretty ez..especially w/proper temper of the neck. I also have a hornady unit which I haven't given up on. The plus w/tru tool is the entire neck moves keeping bullet to neck tension the same. There are...

I've played w/ it in alot of calibers. I quickly came to believe its a hair faster than re19 and a hair slower than i4831. In my 22" marlin w/normal factory chamber I got.... 58.3. 130 hornady. 3050 55.8. 150 horn. 2900 56.2. 140 horn. 2920. These were loads w/rem...
