Ever have one of “those” rifles?

Good job at the loading bench and the range! That's impressive the barrel was a re-bore. I know of that case but am not familiar with it. Sounds like the previous owner was BR shooter. Any documentation indicating who did the re-bore? Thanks for sharing. It would be interesting to know what...

Dick's Sporting Goods pulling hunting gear

Dicks has a subsidiary named Field and Stream that is about hunting and fishing. Last year, 8 of those stores were sold to Sportsmsns Wharehouse. I was in a F&S recently and don't think that they sell any AR types. Here in PA, we have Grices Gunshop in Clearfield that is a huge firearms...

A little something followed me home from deer camp

Those flintlocks are works of art. Crafting function and beauty like your example can only be done by hand. Hunting with those art forms is a passion. It takes special skills to build those guns and hunt with them. Very nice.

    Ummm, Scotty!

Even if I had the money, I could never drag these through the brush. Might have to range test them. These are so special.

    Tried a .44 Mag 629 4inch

21 grs of 2400 with a 240 hard cast SWC (429421 to be exact) was Elmers book load. I shot 19.5 most of the time because it kind of took the sting out of it. The 4" model 29 was also Elmers preferred side arm. The early pinned barrel recessed cylinder 29's couldn't take a steady diet of this...

    Who/When should someone buy QL?

Quickload is worth the money if you are a technically oriented shooter. If you haven't already studied Optimum Charge Weight and Optimum Barrel time, to you should do that. A good chronograph completes the tool box. As previously discussed, it is very complex and provides the ability to fine...

    Seekins Havak PH1 300 WM

That's impressive. Bone stock factory rifle and ammo. Todays rifleman have some great choices. I know what you mean about the Mesa. Looked at them a lot but can't get past the loggoed floorplate. Looking forward to seeing how this works out. Losing a pound of scope is easy for field work. Good luck.

    Favorite 7mm08 deer load.

CJ , sorry about taking so long to get back to this thread. I wanted to take the time to diligently research my response and make the post from my computer keyboard to avoid typos from a touch screen.. Yes, I am referring to RL-16, not 26. My mistake. So, here are some points that I would like...

    Favorite 7mm08 deer load.

Let me correct myself. 47.5/RL26 got me 2830 but that is half way up the neck. I'm shooting 46.0 at 2770 because the precision is better in the H-S there. Your 2990 seems pretty aggressive to me. How many losds do you get on that brass? What brand of brass? Barrel and COAL? I am using Lapua...

    Bullet to neck "Welding"

Some competitive shooters wil pre-load large quantities of match ammo, seat them long and bump back the morning of the match. There is a product called Neolube that is used to prevent galling of stainless threads. Colloidal graphite supported in isopropanol. Dries rapidly. It can be applied to...

    Favorite 7mm08 deer load.

I've loaded for 7-08's in the following rifles: Sako A-II, Finnlite, Rem Model 7, Nosler 48 Heritage, and most recently a H-S Precision 2000 sporter. All with sporter weight barrels and 140 gr bullets. The two powders that I found worked well were I-4350 and WW 760. Depending on the rifle, 2800...

I think I know the answer but......

One or two 3 shot groups is not a statistical credible sampling. Perhaps the three shot groups are the true precision for this load. What type of wind flags are you using? If you prefer 3 shot groups, shoot five groups with each load and take the average. An average of ten groups would be a...

Henry Long Ranger 308 or 6.5

I would favor the 308. I have had a couple 6.5 cms and just rebarreled one of 308's to the 6.5 cm. However, my most recent rebarreling was a 308 win Brux at 22" on a deer rifle. Shot both in good match rifles but prefer the 308. You can't load 180 gr RN in a 6.5 for woods work like you can in a 308.
