custom action or true up the one I have???

I have a Pierce tube action in my Elisio and it is an honest .1-.2 grouping rifle. I shot a lot cleans in competitions at 600 yards last year with X count in the mid to upper teens (X ring at 600 is 3"). This is with a Bartlein 30" medium palma barrel in 6BRX. That being said; the rifle used...

    IMR4451?

I loaded some to try in my 6.5X55 last night. Will be trying it later this week for velocity and accuracy along with R22. It is definitely a bulky powder. Burn rate is between the two 4350's, so it should work for my intentions.

    Huskemaw 5-20 X 50

A buddy has them on a 25-06AI and a 300WM. Swears by them for all his antelope, mule deer and elk hunts in Wyoming where shot have been from 50-600+ yards. I haven't looked through one, so can't comment on the quality of glass compared to a Leupold or Zeiss.

    ...new Swarovskis...

Will qualify the next statement by saying I love my Swarovski optics, but....they missed the boat on these IMO. The magnification range is right up the alley of the tactical guys that love the S&B PMII's, but these are 2nd FP scopes and won't appeal to them. Some of the Euro hunters will like...

RANGE UPDATE: Advice sought re 308 Win mid-range groups

At this point you may want to do a ladder test with powder charges in .2 increments on either side of this load to see what happens. The vertical is pretty good minus the flyer for the rifle you are shooting. Once you see where the harmonics really fall in, you can play with seating depths to...

    Reloading for accuracy

I spent the first 25+ reloading years without all the fancy stuff and could shoot under MOA with most rifles that I took the time to do proper load work (right powders, seating depth, etc). If you are going to be a competition or LR shooter (600 yards plus), you will need to add/upgrade some...

    What rifle influenced you most?

Little different twist on my biggest influences; first is a Ruger 77 in .280 purchased in 1982. Reason it has a place of honor is that this was the caliber that made me start reloading after the disappointment I had with the factory ammo available for this caliber (anyone remember the old 165...

    QL 9.3X62

Jake - What primer are you using, and will you be trying a magnum primer to see if there is velocity or accuracy improvements?

    QL 9.3X62

Thanks for getting all this info posted (y) . I have a little R17 that will be tried with the 286 grain bullets. I shot some light loads with both H414 and IMR4166 last Friday, but did not have my chronograph with me (too darn cold to set up yet). Will be back out later this week to get some...

    neck tension

Agree....the brass needs to be brought back to it's original flexibility if you are going to be able to continue using it. The only way to set up dwell time that is consistent is with Templaq. Once you know the dwell time, it doesn't need to be checked every time. Every different brand of brass...

    9.3X62 is here!

The rifle looks great Jake! Can't wait to see how the 286 partition penetrates the jugs. We will have to compare notes on velocities once the chronographs get set up.

    6mm XC

A guy I shoot F-class matches with uses the 6XC with Berger 105 hybrids and H4350. That powder is slightly slower burning than 203b. His load was 38.3 grains of H4350. Norma 204 is right at the same burn rate as 4350, so 41 grains may be a bit much as a starting load. You may be fine if you have...

Just off the UPS truck. Now what?

Yep...I can shoot my little .22 and 6mm rifles all day long every day . You can have the big boomers. Hope the neck gets better soon.

Leupold VX 3 - CDS vs. M1 turret...

Guy is spot on...I have 11.5 MOA at 600 yards with my 6BRX from my 100 yard zero. The come-ups at 300 yards is only 3.2 moa. The average hunting bullet will require more windage and elevation adjustments at those ranges, but how many of us are shooting that far for most shots.

    wood stock installation problem

I like your idea of drilling it out and plugging with the rosewood. I would do the pillars and bedding after that to give yourself a stronger platform to secure the action to the stock.

Redoing load development on the 22-250?

You should be able to get at least 3000 rounds out of the rifle before it really goes South on you. I would try some 50 or 52 grain bullets and see if you can get a consistently accurate load. My favorite bullet for p-dogs back in the day was a 52 grain Speer HP that had a hollow point big...

Redoing load development on the 22-250?

Another powder to try would be the new IMR 4166. It is supposed to have a similar burn rate to 4064. How many rounds are through the barrel at this point? My favorite powder for the 50-55 grain bullets in the '250 was Reloader 12 from Hercules...obviously not an option anymore for most.

Finally have the Luxus ready to shoot

 this will be the rifle I take to New Zealand next year for a red stage hunt. My daughter is a teacher in Auckland, so a dual purpose visit is being planned.

    7mm-08 for the wife's hunting

Any of the powders in the H4895, Varget, R15 burn rates will work with the 140 grain bullets. I would go to H4350 or H414 for the 150's. I use R15 for the lighter and H414 for the others. You may want to find some 120 BT's to have her start with. There will be less recoil and the 120 is a heck...
