Will be going Thursday Morning for my final set of groups to determine the most accurate load for the 180gr Ballistic Tip and also record its velocity.
In my M48 30 Nosler I drive a 210gr LRAB at 3002fps using IMR7828 SSC and the LRAB is perfect for the 30 Nosler at this velocity and it is a killer. Not sure I would ever use a Ballistic tip in the this rifle but in my 30/06 the ballistic tip is one of my go to bullets.
I have killed a 390 pound hog charging me and hit him at 30 yards with a 180gr Ballistic tip from my 30/06 in the front left shoulder and the bullet exited out the back ham on the right side and he dropped where I shot him. Also, shot a quartering shot on a 250 pound hog and hit the last rib...
Thank you PJGunner, and appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences. I found your story interesting and enjoyed reading it. Thanks again for the post.
Thank you Dan. I had to remount my scope, the DNZ mount was too low. I ran out of elevation clicks on my scope and could only sight my scope in at 1 1/2" high at 100yds. Where you see the group on my target is 1 1/2" high and I only had 2 clicks of elevation left. So I mounted my scope using...
Ok, I went this morning and the humidity was awful. Got it sighted in and then started with my three different loads using the 180gr Ballistic tip and 53.6grs H4350 gave me the best accuracy and velocity (2711fps) which you will see the group in the photo below. Started to work with the 165gr...
The three handloads I will test tomorrow at the range from left to right is the 165gr Sierra Game Changer, the 180gr Nosler Ballistic Tip and the 165gr Sierra HPBT. Tomorrow morning, we are not allowed to fire a round until 8am. It will be 80 degress at 8am and 84 by 9am. Will try to do as much...
Here is the beginning of my work as I finish handloads and mounting my VX-3i 3.5-10x40mm CDS Riflescope (Duplex Reticle) with the DNZ one piece mount. Two bullets are handloads in increments to see which one is more accurate and two of the cartridges are factory ammo to give me some comparisons...
I like !MR4350 but only have H4350 and prolonged use of 4350 can stress a semi auto and its action in 30/06 with 165 and lighter grain bullets. IMR4350 is a perfect power for 170 and for sure 180gr and above.
Glad to be back Fotis, thanks! Life changed for me for about three years and hopefully I will be back into reloading and hunting as well as writing again. Your Tikka T3 SL is shooting excellent with that load. That would work in my bolt action 06 but the powder is to slow for good work in my...
Guy, you know I am a user of Nosler bullets, like in my 6.5 creedmoor 129gr LRAB and my M48 30 Nosler rifle 210gr LRAB. I will be trying the 165gr Ballistic tip after I try the Sierra bullets in the second round of reloading because at the velocities I will be getting the Sierra bullets and the...
I have found a few friends of mine who belong to the same shooting club and range that I do and they have used H4895 with the 165gr Sierra bullets and have had success with it in accuracy with 22" barrels on their 7400's. I will begin with 46.1 and work up to 47.1 since no pressure signs were...
Thank you so much grry10, I was hoping someone shooting a semi auto rifle would have a 165gr load used with H4895 and one they had success with. Once again thank you because this confirms my estimations and calculations concerning the use of H4895 and a 165gr bullet.
