I think antelope and quarter bores were made for each other
The Ruger American just isn't being consistent enough for me to have confidence in it.
I've lived in AZ for many years. I'm finally going to put in for deer and sheep.
Unfortunately, draw odds are pretty low north of the canyon where I live.
It's for the Pine Valley unit. The most southwestern unit in Utah.
Honestly, I don't know which rifle/cartridge I will use.
I have a recently acquired Ruger American 30-06 that I bought for a good deal, but I'm not pleased with it. Currently testing the 180 Nosler Accubond.
I also have a...
That's because there are negative forces at work trying to prevent you from doing a good thing for humanity [emoji6]
For the love of all things just and true, you must work up a load to defeat the negativity!

After work this evening, a buddy of mine let me shoot his 'sledgehammer'. That's what he calls his .378 Weatherby. Unfortunately, I didn't think to get a picture of his rifle. It was a Mark V with a synthetic stock. I'm not sure if it was a Bell & Carlson or a HS Precision stock. He ordered it...
I split a case with my bandsaw, and tried another dummy round and got this, about .030" shorter:
I can hardly see any marks, so I figured that this was the measurement I should go of off for 'to the lands'. What do you guys think?
Can I throw a related question I here?
Is this bullet touching the lands, or jammed past? Also, is that an abnormally long throat, judging by how much bullet is sticking out?
I saw that, too.
I have my dad's Model 70 '06. He bought it new in 1956; for $100.
It's seen a lot of action though, not near as pristine as the rifle in the link.
I just picked up a Hornady Comparator set for bullet seating depth, and the headspace bushings for bumping shoulders.
I loaded up a ladder test sometime ago, and just used the 2.2" COAL found in my Barnes data for the 53 grain TSX.
Note the depth of the bullet to the last ring:
Then, I...

According to the link, the Ackley Improved ones use the same bushing as the parent case
I would like a quarter bore. A nice wood stocked .257 Roberts, 25-06, or .257 Weatherby.
A controlled feed bolt action flavored in .375 H&H.
It's fun to think about it.
I'm pretty much a wannabe when it comes to hunting.
I've been deer hunting a total of 4 times in the last 14 years. I've never put one in the freezer.
In 2013, the last time I went, I drew out for Utah's muzzleloader season. A co-worker who is a die-hard hunter (he has a 208" Muley on his...
