    Rifle for Mulies and Elk

this illustrates where most discussions subjective to the shooter go awry - the selection of size and tolerance to recoil is never ending and so goes the "discussion" ... where this thread started and where it has ended up will show what I say to be true - I will still hold to "my logic" of...

    Nosler Brass

you can go from .284 to 6.5 in one step - I die form .284 Win to 6mm/.284 in one step all the time nor have I ever had to turn any necks

    .338 Win 200 or 225gr

the 338 caliber is one of, if not the, best balance of any rifle hole size - you cannot argue with the "numbers" that come with the 225 accubond but the 200 accubond flies and kills better than the "numbers" would lead one to believe making the advice you have gotten here darn good, build loads...

    Buying brass?

when I loaded for my 338 win mag alot I found Norma brass to be far superior to anything other than Nosler custom (which is Norma albeit prepped) I have used WW brass lots and lots over the years and it is good enough since it's pretty cheap but for consistent tolerances and long lasting quality...

    Nosler Brass

if you are going to fire form shorter shoulder brass you will need to seat the bullet firm into the lands to avoid stretching the brasses web thus weakening it, fireform just as you would for an ackley improved case

    Rifle for Mulies and Elk

there is alot of imput coming in here and it's all viable - I'm gonna stick to my choice of .308 though - right now I have just 2, a Kimber Montana I bought on Gunbroker for $725 and a Tikka T-3 Lite I've got $440 into - the Kimber shoots 150 Accubonds and ballistic tips to 1/2" 3 shot groups...

    Winchester model 70 New Haven

beretzs - I have done a considerable amount of business with B & C, from stocks to coatings and I can tell you one thing FOR SURE - their customer service is the worst I have encountered ... anywhere - I don't know what goes on there but one hand doesn't even know if "the other" is a hand OR A...

    Berger VLD bullets

I hope more information on performance comes in here on the Bergers - If you have read their explanations of "their slant" on bullet performance you quickly understand that these are specialized bullets meant for long range "one shot kills" - Berger's whole interpretation of ballistic...

    338 WSM (aka 338 Redneck)

my "all around" rifle does have a 24" pipe and that suits me fine - for quite a few seasons I carried a heavy old "fat bolt" Browning with a 23" Douglas barrel and that worked equally as well - By nature I am always looking for a "comprimise" so 23" is most likely where I'll chop it and besides...

    338 WSM (aka 338 Redneck)

agreed, I was just relaying what one of the wildcat's originators says - this will be an Alaska rifle for me so I will go 23" or possibly even 22" - Plumlee is saying he beats the Win Mag performance and the RUM is simply another class of rifle IMO, it would seem that no matter the hole size the...

    338 WSM (aka 338 Redneck)

been shooting a 325 WSM for a year now and did a fair amount of research before embarking on this project - word has it that the talk about Winchester testing all the potential WSM's and settling on the 325 due to "steam" and "feeding issues" and such is all "bunk" as can be atested to the many...

    338 WSM (aka 338 Redneck)

Has anyone had any experiences with the 338 WSM wildcat ? Among other "aka's" it is known in some circles as the 338 Redneck - I just began a first project on one of these, I am going to have a 270 WSM model 70 rebored to 338 "WSM" - I have some starter data and am looking for Redding dies - I...

    Rifle for Mulies and Elk

since we appear to be votin' for your Mrs, I vote for a .308 and for a number of reasons - 1) it will do whatever a 30.06 will do with 165's and under 2) it is a short action making it less of a "chore" to operate (not a big deal for us but might be for a gal) 3) no limits on bullet choice 4)...

    Winchester model 70 New Haven

thank you to all for the great information - I have owned some of the CRF's and although they are highly regarded they're sometimes a "bugger" to deal with as far as loading / unloading - I, for one, feel the model 70 safety is the only one worth a darn and the "old" model 70 trigger is what has...

    Winchester model 70 New Haven

I am trying to figure out which was which in the New Haven model 70 - I know the "classic" and the shadow push feed but wasn't there a CRPF model too ? was it the "ultimate shadow" ? I had a 325 WSM I bought from consignment, a RMEF banquet rifle, and it was a CRPF (stupid to sell it, I know)...

    Short Action VS Long Action?

it would seem that cartridge choice is part of what makes us feel we have "personalized" our endeavors - If you "pencil" the charts in the Nosler manual it doesn't make all that much difference (on paper anyway) what short action cartridge one chooses - In the past few years the shooting world...

    SEATING PRIMERS

I capped off 12 of them that I picked randomly out of the box and they all fired and sounded the same so I'm goin' with it and chalking it up to a lesson learned - thank you to ALL for the comments and feedback, it is great to have this resource !!

    SEATING PRIMERS

I am "logging" every bit of info I am receiving here ... All the pockets were trued all I did was to squeeze the Hornady hand tool to the point where it "breaks" over center but you can see that the primers are flatter than would be "normal" but there are no marks on the primers & they are...
