For what it's worth, my rifle was able to get substantially more speed with RL17 than h4350 or h4831 and the 200 accubond. It's such a good match, in my rifle anyway, that there isn't much point shooting 180's. The RL17/200AB combo is within 50 fps of what I can do with 180's- and more...
Just because I'm curious... Are those either 165 or 168's? What's your COAL?
I ask because I've loaded 168's at 3.325" with 59 gr of h4350 and not been compressed in winchester brass...
Thanks. I kinda thought bullets would maintain rotational speed more than angular velocity. So, I personally wouldn't count on a reduced load perfectly simulating a full-house load at long range.
I've read, and it makes sense, that a bullet's rotational force contributes at least something to its expansion characteristics. Slowing a bullet down with reduced loads would also slow its rotational speed. I don't know how a bullet maintains roational speed in comparison to linear speed down...
Thanks again. I loaded some last night. Hopefully I can shoot them tonight. If this works, I'll have a half-MOA load with 150 ablr's at 2860ish fps. I think that would be just about the last load I would ever need.
Edit to add: ...as long as my pressure isn't too high. Seems good so far, but...
I believe 1/4 turn would only be like ten or fifteen thousandths. Think that would be enough? The bullets are already pretty far from the lands with the 150 ablr at max magazine length of 2.900", and the 120 bt's grouped about the same with the same charge of RL15 at 2.800, 2.825, and 2.85...
I'm trying to finalize a couple loads in my 7-08- 120's with RL15, and 150's with RL17. The rifle shot 5 out of 6 groups the other day that were under 3/4" @ 100, but they all exhibited the dreaded 2 in/1 out pattern. Is this a symptom of something I can fix? Those 3/4" groups are nice, but sub...
I would try the 4350 first, then the 4831 or RL22. Unless your 7828 is the super short cut version, you probably won't be able to get enough in the case. If you can't find a good load with any of the powders at hand, keep your eyes out for some RL19. My Nosler manual lists 71.5 grains of...
I would load a few rounds from each lot and shoot them over the chronograph. The two lots of retumbo that I have tried were very close to each other. Maybe yours are, too. If they all produce essentially the same velocity, as my two lots did, then you wouldn't even have to worry about it...
Thanks Bob. It is a pretty good load, but a 140 berger with an extra 200 fps is pretty impressive, too. Speaking of which, what are the chances that anyone would want to run a quickload profile for either/both the 162 a-max/140 berger? Seating depths are 2.900" and 2.840", respectively. Neither...
I would love to, but don't know how. And I'm not very tech savvy. Don't have Photobucket, either. If you'd like to see or post them, pm my a phone number or email address and I'd gladly send pics to you.
I managed to score some of the blems a couple weeks ago on SPS, and finally shot some of them last night. I loaded up 4 rounds(1 magazine full) of an established load for my rifle, 162 a-max and 46gr rl17, along with a couple sets of 4 with the 168. Unfortunately, I had a new scope on the...
