I managed to score some of the blems a couple weeks ago on SPS, and finally shot some of them last night. I loaded up 4 rounds(1 magazine full) of an established load for my rifle, 162 a-max and 46gr rl17, along with a couple sets of 4 with the 168. Unfortunately, I had a new scope on the rifle which I discovered has 5-6 inches of parallax at 200 yards, so groups weren't so good. But I did manage to get some velocity numbers. At 46 grains, the a-max load averaged 2763 fps. I've shot this load before with no pressure signs and very good groups. The 168's still didn't show any pressure signs, and averaged 2743 fps. I also managed to recover 3 of them from the dirt bank behind the target. They are all perfect mushrooms and retained 76.6, 82.1, and 85.3 grains.
 
Sounds as if you are well on your way to a good load with these new bullets. That is pretty good weight retention with that sort of abuse.
 
Yeah, I thought the same. These bullets should be great in a faster 7mm. I'd love to get my hands on some of the 150's for this rifle.
 
All these will be released in due time. It looks as if I'll be picking up a 7mm-08 shortly and beginning load development. I'll be adding it to my growing collection of .284 calibre rifles. I agree, however, that the 150s should be just about right for that cartridge.

They will be great in a fast 7mm but it sounds like they're about spot-on in your 7-08 too Jason. 2750fps with that sort of ballistic profile - great hunting combo!
 
Thanks Bob. It is a pretty good load, but a 140 berger with an extra 200 fps is pretty impressive, too. Speaking of which, what are the chances that anyone would want to run a quickload profile for either/both the 162 a-max/140 berger? Seating depths are 2.900" and 2.840", respectively. Neither are even close to the lands, which I assume is a lot of the reason I'm able to run them this fast. I'm just curious what quickload thinks velocity potential is and/or where my pressure might be.

Sounds like some excellent results from the 7-08. I agree with the others, at 2750, with that 168, you would have some excellent ballistics. That bullet should be excellent for anything from deer to moose really, since you aren't pushing it overly hard. Plus, being fairly soft, it'll open up just fine.

Great shooting, still have some loads to tweak for my 7mm WSM, but it sounds like this bullet is a winner in the 7mm class. Can't wait for some of the Ackley guys to try it out.
