The addiction begins Desert Fox. Those who never thought they wanted or needed an AR once they get one have to get another. Maybe next year your better half will bless you with an AR in 7.62x51.
My 1 in 9" twist SR556 likes 55 grain Sierra BTHP's over 23.3 grains of LT-32 seated as long as...
Congratulations to all who have wild game to eat this season. I missed out entirely on the fall season as my group wasn't drawn for anything.
Javalina is coming up in February and here in AZ we are lucky to have this "big" game hunt to hold us over until spring. I sure do hope to get in...
Yes, wow and good for you on a great find. I have a passion for a .222 but went in a little different direction with a T/C Pro Hunter in .222 Mag AI. With my personal issues having 7% case capacity over a .223 helps me feel better. Sure a .223 is really the way to go with all the component...
Wow, you are doing well. The powders mentioned are good ideas, you may run out of money or time before you can check out all the good .224 caliber powders. One of my favorites is LT-32 as it drives a 55gr Sierra to sub MOA in a (mostly) stock SR-556. Not sure how it would do for the heavy .224s.
maverick2 you hit a nerve. There is a .340 Weatherby Accumark in my cabinet that has been carried on a few Elk hunts, but really was only "needed" for an AK hunt a few years ago. I thought about selling it, but then I looked at the Dall on the wall and decided not to.
Never have I met a...
Fantastic buck khh. I've been looking for one like it for years. As to why you recovered no petals, not sure.
I have had a similar "deer who didn't know he was dead" experience. A small mule deer shot with a Barns out of a .243 actually went back to eating after being hit. I couldn't...
The Redding serices C neck die 82428 set is what I use. Ordered from Sinclair and not cheap. This seating die creates rounds that are sub MOA and that is good enough for me. The bushing dies are supposed to be that much better, but I have not tried them.
To carry a full size pistol I prefer my Safepacker made by The Wilderness. This is basically a man purse. It truly is ugly, but unless someone knows what it is the hidden in plain sight factor works great. I carry my wallet and phone it it as well as hang my keys from it. If anything it adds...
The Caldwell 10" Magnum Rifle gong was my first gong and it is well made. It absorbs .340 Weatherby Magnum rounds at 300 yards just fine leaving only a tiny depression. You should be able to use this with just about anything except maybe a .50 BMG. (y)
The stand is nice as it is light and...
When reloading becomes a chore I stop. I have found when the goal is to be done, not do it right and have fun, you are done. This applies to my work as well.
Brass prep is my least favorite chore so I do a lot of it at once. I can then really enjoy putting rounds together.
Since my day job...
Thank you for sharing and congratulations. Cow's taste the best. Glad you didn't hurt yourself worse. It can happen and it sounds like you were a ways from any help.
Now you need to change your name on to 7mm AI on this forum.
Hit a small cow Elk one year in the shoulder with a .30-06 from about 75 yards. The shoulder was ruined and the leg joint was exploded from the shock. It took one to the head to finish her off. She was good eating though I wish I had hit her better.
Must have been a nice rack to not shoot...
Thanks FOTIS. I was going to post the link to the PDF white paper, but you beat me to it. This is a good read and lets the data do the talking.
My main take away is that under 400 yards these new bullets don't provide any additional accuracy as the impact of the "melting tip" doesn't impact...
Further proof that lever actions are worthless
Love my stainless .44 1894 with a Williams peep and fiber optic. Took a while to break in the action, but it is smooth now. Light, hard hitting and really handy with 10 in the tube.
Yes the proprietary Weatherby's will allow a bullet to fall out of the case before touching the lands. When setting up reloads for my .340 I measured factory loads base to ogive to set up my seating depth for this reason. The large variance in seating depth really surprised me. These same...
Very enjoyable tread. I am looking forward to more.
My most memorable shot was not taken during my most memorable hunt. The shot I remember most fondly was taken at a Bull Elk on public land during a self guided hunt. After several early days we were up well before dawn again and while...
