I am about to recommend the Nosler 165 gr Partition reloads for my hunting party this coming year for 30-06 and 300 Win Mag rifles. We will be hunting both Buck and Elk at the same time. The chances are good that there will not be any shot over 380 yds, and more than likely in the 100-200 yard...
"Well said, Handloading and Woodworking are about as good for the soul as anything I do.."
Man Scotty!!!, we are on the same page. You must have been born in the Adirondacks near Newcomb.
"The proof is that everyone owns a chrony and almost everyone has killed at least one."
Oh please don't say that.. I just got mine back from Chrony for recalibration. :(
..I did not chop down the cherry tree and I am not addicted.
You have whittled down your choices to three good rifles. I concur with all 3 above.
This is just excellent advise --> "What you should do is go to a large gunshop and physically handle each of the models you're considering."
You have to feel these rifles in your own hands... The Weatherby...
I understand manuals are just suggested options and reload starts but 2 questions:
1. How does the bullet maker determine the C.O.L. for their bullet? "Middle of the road" bearing surface when seated or ?
A reloaders manual states the C.O.L. for each bullet and then suggests powder charges for...
Super day Jmad_81!
Nosler had stated RL19 was their most accurate powder. Hopefully the screw torque is the trick.
Now you have me wondering about my rifle's screw torque even though it is firing good. Time to work the fat wrench.
Thanks for the feedback. Keep us posted

Hi Team,
This is my wife's brand new Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 7mm-08 break-in target (Picture of rifle is in Product Review Section). Scope is a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50mm. Keep in mind it was 39 degrees at the beginning of our morning and we were cleaning the rifle after every shot which we...
Darn!
I am not worthy! I shoot with one eye closed.
I can definitely understand the great benefits to both eyes opened though.
Once I get my custom load working at 100 yards, I no longer sight in at 100. I go 200 yards. I shoot one fouler and a 3 shot group now.
Biggest reason why I do not...
Being a current owner of a Weatherby Vanguard Series 1 rifle, it made it a bit easier to evaluate this product. In addition this is the second Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 rifle that I have had the pleasure of receiving brand new and assisting in barrel break-in. (Calibers 30-06 and 7mm-08)...
You overcame all obstacles! Even one of those events would have got me excited. You also do well multi-tasking at the range. I am good for maybe two rifles. After that I lose focus on what I am trying to accomplish with testing reloads.
Your 94's look so primo! Nice. I think you saw...
Hey Wapiti Slayer .270 !
What an experience to relate to all of us. I am very happy you did not loose out of pocket on an issue that was not at all your fault. I shop at the Sportsman's here in the Springs. I can't say I have ever had to test the CS yet. The hunting department guys here are...
I always had two close ones and then a silly 1 1/4" if not a little larger flier.
I know I spent a lot of money and tears, and then one day the heavens opend up.
Scotty is a rocket scientist so you could be on the right track.
The very cool thing about all the suggestions is you get to...
Dr Mike you have the 375 Winchester shooting better than Hornady could with their test rifle!! Very Cool.
You have a spring big game black bear season. Now that is a pro hunting area!
Is this a Model 94? Also is this a caliber much like Marlins 444?
It sounds like you had a nice...
Thanks Team! The whole day was fantastic with wife.
The day was focused on breaking in her new 7mm-08. The 338 Win Mag just put the icing on the cake.
I will write a report and the wife's super happy experience tomorrow with a few pics.
Hope you get your 225 ABs shooting great...
Hey JMAD_81,
Took the new 7mm-08 for its breakin' today and I mentioned that i would take the 338winmag out as well. I had time at the end of the day to shoot a fouler and a 3 shot group.
I was a little concerned what the group would look like because I took Scotty's expert recommendation...
Wow Scotty!
Your 338 loves those 250's with 3rd target load.. Of course we also know it is the shooter behind that pin pointing rifle too
Do the 250's prove a much more noticible bigger kick than the 225's and what do you suspect you wil hunt with the 250's?
Nice shooting all around...
Hi Jmad_81,
Have you tried the H4831. I had exactly the same experience with RL19, H4350, and IMR 4350 along with seating depths and different primer combinations.
I was looking thru the Nosler #6 Reloading manual and noticed it presented decent figures for the H4831. I had nothing to loose...
In another post I mentioned that my new 7mm-08 magazine box will only allow 2.800 max C.O.L.. After measuring for my lands I find that I start at .090 off the lands with a 2.800 C.O.L. round. I will be goingout to the range to break in the rifle in a couplde of weeks.
How far off the lands with...
