This past Saturday I bought a new rifle, one of the Bass Pro/Cabelas exclusive model Tikka T3x's in 223. I wanted it because it has a threaded barrel for my suppressor and a 1:8 twist so I can use heavier bullets. For optics, I mounted a Vortex Viper 6-24x50.
I took it to the range last...
Today was the first day of a new 3-day antlerless season in Missouri. My Tikka T3x 270 Win using Norma Whitetail 130's convinced these does to get in the Mule and lie really still. The hunt was on my farm and both were shot about 85ish yards.
Very pleased with the Norma ammo on paper and...
Thanks, guys.
Blkram, I haven't had the opportunity to chrono the load. It's out of the Hornady manual and, based on their info, plus variables (barrel length differences, etc), I'm guessing 2450ish.

After work yesterday, I made a quick run to the range to get some rifles ready for our early antlerless season this weekend.
My Browning BLR 358 Win put three Hornady 200 spire points in .61, two in virtually one hole. The load is 46 gr H322 in Lapua cases ignited by CCI 200 primers . The...
Well, I did a fast chrono session tonight after work.
I got velocities of 2655, 2600 and 2555 (in that order). 2603 average,ES of 99.77, SD of 50. The first two velocities are where I anticipated it to be, but not the 100 fps gap. I measured each powder charge before dropping it into a case...
JD, it was cloudy, so I didn't try to use my chronograph. I'm guessing 2600-2625ish. When I have a chance, I plan to test them to get a velocity to work with.

Some family members and I had a range session yesterday. One of the loads I was testing used Sierra 165 SBT's in a 308 using Shooter's Workd Precision Rifle powder. It was fired from a Tikka T3x with a sporter barrel.
These bullets were some made by my son who works at Sierra. It should be...
We're home now and have attended to the burial. Frankie is next to Ruger and Ranger, two great dogs in their own rights. He's not in pain or discomfort and can rest his old bones.
The vet was very good in all aspects and that helped. He explained everything in advance and showed real empathy...
In 2007 my dad died of cancer and shortly afterward I got a new puppy from the pound. My dad was called Frankie as a kid so I named my new dog in his honor.
It was immediately clear that Frankie was very intelligent and could learn things without actually teaching him. Over the years, he was...
I guess it shouldn't be too much of a shock. He got some Varget a month or two ago and it's $56/lb.
I would like to know, just out of morbid curiosity, why Alliant seems SO slow getting anything in circulation compared to Hodgdon, etc .

The muzzle brake does help, but bear in mind the recoil isn't horrible to begin with. It's more than your 7mm-08 but nothing like a 300 Win Mag. Like most brakes, it does exacerbate the noise level so wear good muffs or plugs when you shoot it.
You ought to hear what it sounds like with a...
That is the exact rifle I have. I really think you're gonna love it.
If I may suggest, look into installing a Limbsaver recoil pad on it. The 6.5 isn't abusive but the pad just makes it that much nicer.

I have limited experience using a 243 on deer but I did research online and among friends and settled on the Sierra 85 gr HPBT. It uses a Matchking jacket and profile so accuracy is very good. It comes apart in the critter sorta like a Berger. A friend who has used them a lot told me, "It...
