Gentlemen,
I appreciate the input.
I agree with all of you. I wanted to see if my thoughts were in line with the experience of folks on this topic.
JD338, I agree, shot placement is king. So is Jack O'Connor, cloverleaf.
I researched several calibers, studied and compared lots of data...
I just checked Cabelas. They are showing 1-2 weeks to ship the 215's.
You might also check the other large suppliers and even get on their backorder list. I have seen availability improve on shotgun primers in the last few weeks. Hopefully rifle and pistol primers will follow.
Check out...
I am planning a hunt for 2011 to either the Save Valley Conservancy or the Bubye (formerly the Lemco Ranch) Valley Conservancy in Zimbabwe.
After talking with many PH's at the Dallas Safari Club Convention, I got mixed feelings about the 270 WSM on plainsgame.
One PH, without hesitancy, said...
Hello 260fan,
I use Hodgdon International Clays for both 12 and 20 ga.
I have patterned both of my Browning O/U 12 gauges and my Savage 20 gauge. Both shoot nice full patterns with no holes.
I use MEC reloaders, Remington STS primers, Claybuster wads, and Remington STS and Gun Club hulls.

Now that is what I am talking about! Very nice indeed.
Idaho has some really good Whitetails. I saw many good trophy bucks in the Selway when I guided there many years ago. Some were running in the same country where we hunted Elk!!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
I am plannng a guided Moose hunt in Alaska for 2010.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a guide and the best areas to hunt?
Thanks for the input.
Paul
Has anyone hunted Blacktail deer on Kodiak or Afognak islands?
If you have, would you mind sharing who you hunted with, as well as your thoughts.
I am planning a hunt this year or next.
Many thanks,
Paul
IMR 4350, RL 19, H-4831 SC and IMR 7828 SSC are working good in my 270 WSM.
It is a fun caliber to shoot and has very good energy delivery as well. The velocity, IMHO, is a moot point, as it has plenty.
Good luck and safe shooting!
Paul
I too had the problem with the scope "punching me between the eyes. I installed a Simms(screw on) recoil pad (needed to lengthen the pull) and also added a comb riser to the stock.
Here is a link to the kit:

This got my head down on the...
Outstanding POP!! Way to go!
Hope you take a big one.
I will be buying a preference point next week for the 2010 Antelope draw. I hope I can be fortunate, like you, and draw a buck tag.
If you haven't hunted Pronghorns, you are missing out on a really fun time. Lots of animals to look...
I agree with DrMike.
I was at the range yesterday (92-98 degrees with 85 % humidity) testing loads in my 270 WSM. I allowed at least 3 minutes between shots. I thoroughly clean after every 6-9 shots. I use Shooters Choice and a few Montana Extreme products.
I also do not load much past the...
These are some excellent groups and I also learned some new things to try.
I am new to the this board and recently bought a 270 WSM in a Savage 14 Classic and topped it with a Leupold 4-12x50mm VX-II. The rifle comes pillar bedded and free floated from the factory. I like the Accu-Trigger as...
