I've never been a huge fan of the Howa action, but this spring I won a Weatherby Vanguard, .30-06 at a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet. I decided to keep it for my two little boys to learn on, and have fun working up loads for it, in the meantime. I topped the rifle with Leupold rings and mounts and a VXII 2-7X33mm scope.
One of the reasons for keeping it was the target provided by the factory. I've seen tons of Vanguards in the stores, but their accuracy has never impressed me. This rifle should have been destined to be a Sub MOA version, as all three bullets were cloverleafed on the targer provided.
I've shot about 5 different loads through the gun, all giving fine results around an inch to 1.25" at 100 yards.
Today though, I found the "keeper load". The group measured under .5" at 100 yards using 150 grain Hornady SP's and 58.0 grains of IMR 4350 - OAL was 3.270. Needless to say I'm very satisfied!

Outstanding group! You should be proud.

Good 'ol IMR 4350. My 270 WSM likes this powder too.
