I’ve hunted and shot in those temps and never had a regular LR primer give me problems. This includes loads over 60 grains. Also never heard of it happening 2nd hand from anyone I actually know. I don’t doubt it can happen but if it weren’t for the internet I don’t think I’d even know it was...
I’ve chosen this bullet as my do-all bullet in a 280 AI. Muzzle velocity is 2815 FPS using RL23 and it carries 1800 FPS to 1000 yards. I’m thinking with the lower muzzle velocities the risks of a failure at close range is minimal, or at least comparable to an ELD-X
What does any of this blathering have to do with anything? No one is arguing you can’t buy great shooting rifles for cheap. No one is arguing that you need to practice with your rifle. Good shooters shoot good, thank you for that.
The point of this thread is to make it clear that OP’s protocol...
There seems to be a growing cohort of dudes that can’t stand the fact that other folks have accurate rifles. You used to have to put a lot of work and or money into getting a gun to shoot well but now $700 Tikka’s shoot as well as any custom costing ten times as much, and anyone can grab a box...
If you think your rifle is x inches long, you’re wrong. Flip your measuring tape over and you’ll find your rifle is actually y centimeters.
All you’re describing is a different measuring technique. Of course you might get different results but it’s a wildly impractical way to measure a rifle’s...
If you do this sport long enough, it’s a certain eventuality you’ll experience what you’re going through. Hunting tests every facet of us. It’s hard because while we feel we are in control, we actually control so very little of it.
If you know you took an ethical shot inside your skill set...
I switched from RL26 to RL17 in 30-06 for 178s and 200s not because I can’t find RL26, I have 9 pounds of it. The reason was I have to shove so much of it in the case and the load is so compressed that the soft ELD-X jacket gets dented during seating. I tried everything to prevent it, but...
I roll 162 ELD-X under Reloder 26 at speeds faster than I should quote on the internet. This is in a featherweight as well. Very happy with the load. I also like 150 Partitions under your favorite 4350.

I get those speeds and more from Reloder 26 over a magnetospeed. Both in 178 ELD-X and 180 Partitions. I was surprised too. It’s a FULL case but no pressure signs so far. The magnetospeed has replicated quoted speeds on box ammo so it seems accurate.

I have a Model 70 featherweight in .280 Rem that absolutely barks. Recoil is fierce. I wouldn’t let me wife near it. She’s pretty recoil sensitive and much prefers the short action calibers. I wouldn’t feel undergunned on elk with any short actio 6.5/7mm/.308 and it’ll be much more pleasant to...
I have a Featherweight .280 from the SC plant and a Portugal made all weather 30-06. They both are beautifully made guns but the SC gun required a new bedding job and some sanding of the barrel channel to shoot well. They both shoot great. They are my favorite rifles.
I’ve just been watching the usual online outlets, but haven’t seen it locally. I have about half a keg I’ve been rationing. I’ll look into having someone order me some. I figured if the online folks didn’t have it the local shops couldn’t order any either but it won’t hurt to make my demand known
You’re replying to a guy that is primarily a shotgun/bird hunter that still has the .270 he grew up with, in a thread where he can’t decide between a .308 and a 7mm mag, a guy that has no interest in shooting past 400 yards worst case scenario, and your suggestion is to go full custom? That’s a...
I definitely know POI will change. On my Tikka SL the barrel is so thin that removing the suppressor moves POI off the paper entirely at 100. I just don’t have any empirical evidence on group size changes and I’m wondering if I can do load work up on a new rifle before I send it off to get...
