You bet JD!
BTW...I rigged the CDL with a new Leupie VX II 3X9X40...I loved the Conquest but need the extra eye relief...surprised that the new VX IIs still adjust with a screw driver for elevation and windage! For over 300$ its time to use your fingers Leupold! :?
Other than that the...
Longwinters and I made final preparations for Michigan Firearm season today. I traded him my new Rem 700 LV .22-250 for (my original) Rem 700 CDL 7MM08.
Don't ask why we often trade back and forth...
Long had several 140 Accubonds loaded up but they were around MOA (at best)for...
I agree JD...
Longwinters is currently hunting Bear with his 7-30 Waters TC with 140 gr bonded bullets... I am a little concerned about tracking after the shot...I am not "officially" guiding him but he is my best bud and I will be there.
I don't doubt he'll kill the bear... but how far will...
I have guided Black Bear hunters for many years. The problem is not killing them as much as finding them after the shot.
Bows are very effective because they cut a large exit hole and severe arteries...I killed 14 with a Bow/Arrow.
A bear can absorb a LOT of hydrostatic shock. I reccomend a .270...
Due to my recent surgery and unemployment I have had to reduce my hunting tools.
I hope on having two to three rifles...
1) My .280 CDL(the most versatile)
2) I traded my 7MM08 Rem CDL for a MINT Sako 75 Hunter SS...7MM Mag(gorgeous wood) for big game... hated too but $$$wise a very good...
Aside from the Trynitride coating...is there any other difference? Besides price?
Do the SPS SS shoot well? I have had great luck with CDLs and am looking for an SS Syn... I see the new SPS come with the Mark X trigger...seems like a great deal? :o
WOW! That is an AWESOME RAM!
Try to get some details for us Lar... How far? Bullet performance?
I don't think you can beat the performance/accuracy/trigger quality of a Tikka for the price. 8)
Long has recovered (too) fast... He and his son Jeremy smoked me at the range today...
I have had NO success with CT Ballistic Silvertips...go figure? tried them im my 3006 today... 168gr bullets in front of 57.5 through 59 gr of H4350 in 0.5 gr increments.
57.5 was the best at a...
My Sako Greywolf loved 59-60 gr of RE 22...
My .270 Rem Mtn rifle (now Long's son in laws ) was fond of H 4831...with 130gr bullets.
I had a Winnie Featherweight 70 (that was very accurate  )... it shot 130s great with RE 19.
My favorite is ,was, the .280 Rem... 160gr Partitions will kill everything up to the Big Bears...for them I'd try to load up some 175s... many would call me arrogant or foolish...but the Natives up there have killed many with 30/30s and .35 cal lever actions.
Shot placement and steel gonads!!! :P
We didn't bring Long's Chrono POP... Actually I had a two shot one holer with 57.5gr of RE 22 but I didn't get the third shot to join them...the group was still about 1/2"... I will try the 57.5gr again and maybe a 57.7gr load of RE 22...
However...I could actually feel an increased "thump"...
