Aside from the Trynitride coating...is there any other difference? Besides price?

Do the SPS SS shoot well? I have had great luck with CDLs and am looking for an SS Syn... I see the new SPS come with the Mark X trigger...seems like a great deal?

Northwoods Hunter

I don't think you can go wrong with a 700. They are easy to tune and they almost always shoot very well.
What caliber are you looking at?

Due to my recent surgery and unemployment I have had to reduce my hunting tools.

I hope on having two to three rifles...

1) My .280 CDL(the most versatile)
2) I traded my 7MM08 Rem CDL for a MINT Sako 75 Hunter SS...7MM Mag(gorgeous wood) for big game... hated too but $$$wise a very good deal...no?

3) I am thinking of getting a .243 for a Deer/Coyote/ all weather walking rifle...also considering a Tikka Lite SS... 8)

Got a thing for 6mm's & 7mm's do ya? Me too...

Sorry to hear of surgery and unemployment, but yeah, your rifle choices sound good. The .243 is a dandy varmint/predator/deer cartridge and like JD338 said, Remington 700's are easy to tune and generally shoot very well.

Your .280 is great for pretty much everything. The Sako sounds like a great rifle as well, with a little more punch.

Best of luck this season. I've been thinking of cutting back my rifle inventory, it's currently causing the gunsafe to nearly burst at the seams... Fewer rifles and more hunting would make me a very happy guy.

Regards, Guy

FWIW, the xcr also has the rubber overmolded stock. They're nice rifles but don't look for the XCR to out shoot any other 700. All of mine shoot pretty well. I had a model 16 Savage .243 that would put five shots in one ragged hole so if you want economy...
