I did JD...the 54.0 gr IMR 4831 load opened up to well over an inch? :(
57.5 gr of Re 22 puts me over 60,000 PSI according to POPs CD quick load chart. Thats what I was planning using for a Max guideline...although there were no dramatic pressure signs.
Longwinters and I headed for the range today...
I started working up .280 cal 160gr NAB loads for next seasons Elk hunt and wanted to hone in a deer load for my 7mm08. The rifles are both stock Remington 700 CDLs with std 24" bbls.
The .280 trigger was set down to 3#(by yours truly) and it...
Either your friend or Gander Mt in Wilmont WI... That GM store has a couple of the best Smiths in the country and specialize in rechambering... $95
If I do more than that I'll send it to Williams for sure...
I HAVE DECIDED!!
I will not trade...but sell him the 30.06.
I will take thee proceeds and have the Remmy .280 CDL rechambered to a .280 AI, have a brake added and perhaps a little more accurizing...?
This will give me a do it all rifle with a sweet shooting 7MM 08 CDL already sitting next to...
Unfortunately....I shot the 30.06...
I couldn't resist it!!!!
I ran a std load of 57.5 gr of H 4350 behind Hornady 165 SSTs...it shot MOA right out of the box. 8)
I have a 2006 Rem 700 CDL SF... It is the 3006 100yr commerative edition. I am not a collector...just thought with the 24" SS fluted bbl it would make a nice rifle for Muleys/Elk that I try to do every few years.
Last year I sold a mint condition Sako 75 Hunter in .280 to a friend for his first...
Yes...I cant afford to do the whole enchilada now, but I am going to have my Rem .280 CDL rechambered to .280 AI. It has a decent 24" bbl...down the road I will probably put a Hart #3 on it... 8)
I took my 7MM Mag Sako as my back up rifle on my last hunt. I shot 160 ABs and had them grouping very well also... I thought I needed a .300 Wby Mag...I never got a shot...
WOW! That is an awesome tool!
Would you run one more for me and whomever is interested?
My "other" Elk possibility... My Rem 700 CDL SF 30.06...
I am thinking 165 Accubonds? Your favorite powder/load rcommendation from the wonderous CD Rom?
Thanks a million POP!!!
Thanks a ton POP and JD!
I would probably start at 56gr and work up from there...I realize the 60,000PSI thing. I have loaded 140s to over 58,000 in my Sako 75 w/o any pressure signs...
A friend suggested 55 gr of IMR 4831 for 2,900 fps load with 160 gr PTs
I see you used 54.0gr JD...I'd guess...
I am going to work up some 160gr loads for my Rem CDL .280...for next years Wyoming Elk/Muley hunt.
I have seen several comments regarding the ABs vs the PTs for Elk /Mule Deer sized critters extoling good virtues of both... While I would welcome any good recipes(24" bbl)...I plan on trying JD...
