I still am chuckling on this one....
A Sports shop I guide out of has been selling a lot of the new Savage/Stevens Model 200 bolt action rifles. He has been "bugging me " to endorse em. Telling me I wont believe how well they shoot. Waal I was very skeptical....after all...with at least...
I have a tough time here...
Presently my favorite is my .280 Rem for Coyotes & Varmits 120 NBTs
for Antelope & Deer....140 NABs
for Elk.......................160 NABs...
Yup! I just got another batch of .280 Accubonds...(140gr) and some 140s for my .270 too. It took about 10 days from Shooters Pro Shop.
I honestly get just as good groups from the 2nds...
I've shot 0.245" groups with the .280...140 gr NABs. You'll love em!
I just thought I'd let you guys know that my first Goat hunt was awesome!
With a load of 54.0 gr of H 4350 behind 140gr Accubonds from my Browning SS Stalker in .280 remington, I was pressed to make a 323yd shot. The rut was in full force near Douglas Wyo and the goats were very...
I started a thread a while back looking for a good Antelope load for my .280 Browning SS Stalker. I finally ended up with 54.0 gr of H 4350 and 140 NABs. I am also very very pleased with the 3.3X10 Zeiss Conquest scope I put on.
I shot a 0.368" three shot group at 200yds Friday
I leave...
This was my "planned load" when I first booked the trip. Funny thing is so far 140 NPs out of my 7MM STW Rem 700 BDL SS are out shooting the 140gr NABs my .280 Sako at 2-300yds.
But I am stubborn...I have tweaked my(.280) H 4831 SC load to 58.7gr with a 3.345 OAL (thats all the clip will...
Now that I have both 140 gr NPs and NABs shooting extremely well out of my 7MM STW behind 80gr of IMR 7828 out to 300yds...( 0.30")
Which would be the best choice for Wyo lopes...I don't have a Chrony but am pretty sure my 26" Remington bbl is cranking em over 3,200 fps.
At that speed is the...
I'll say! :o
Hmmmmmm ...wonder if I should convert my Sako 75 Hunter to .280 AI or my .280 Browning Stainless Stalker?
Since the Sako has the heavier barrel contour I think I'll do the Sako...maybe switch to a cool looking McMillan synthetic stock?
Just what does it entail to convert a std .280 Rem cal to an Ackley Imp?
Yesterday's range report....
.280 Sako 60.0 gr of H 4831.... 0.58"......140 gr Nosler SB
59.5 gr of H 4831 SC ....0. 66".... " " "
I'm going to up the SC to 60.0gr and see if it tightens up...
Good News!
I pulled the stock on my .280 Sako Hunter and found a high spot(barrel rub mark) carefully sanded it down, resealed the stock and reassembled it. My first reloads today were 140gr Partitions in front of 53.5gr of IMR 4350....WOW! :o...0.336" at 100yds!!! That was the problem...
I see it this way....If a crisp 2-2.5" trigger will most certainly make you a much more accurate shooter...why keep it at the range?
I learned that long ago and have made some rewarding game shots because of it....don't handicap yourself...a good trigger job only costs 30-40$ in my neck...
Thanks guys....
Now I'm really felling good! I know the Browning will hit whatever I aim at If I do my part. I put a secondary aim point about 7 inches above the bull at 300yds and put three shots in just over an inch on the bull. That gave me a lot of confidence!
I'm going to...
They certainly could...
except I was shooting three rifles that day...
the .280 Sako shooting 58.5 gr of H 4831
0.50"@100yds....2.50"@200yds with
a .280 Browning w the same H 4831 58.5 gr load 0.40"@100yds....0.50"@200yds with Sierra 140gr SBTs
a Remington 7MM STW H 4350 73.5gr...
I shoot off shooting bags...front and rear
I've had several Sako rifles over the years and most would shoot under 0.50" @ 100yds...with the right loads.
I can get Sierra 140 gr SBTs to hold 0.40@100yds and 0.50 @ 200yds...but the Partitions just dont stay tight at 200yds??? :(
Today I shot...
