Here is mine that my brother, dad, and I built and use on the powerline of a friends property. We used old pallets and scrap wood and metal roofing for a budget build
Thank you all for the replies. It definitely gives me something to chew on.
As an update, I took the 338 back to the range yesterday morning with a few "final developed" loads, and was much more encouraged by its accuracy. 3 different loads using 200gr NABs and 210 TSXs gave .7-.85 inch...
Some of you may remember my recent post about my 338, which I bought for an upcoming "hunt of a lifetime" with my dad next fall. I was perfectly content with my 30-06 until I was convinced by a few that I should get a magnum for that possibility of needing extra oomph for a long range or...
Funny, i was just having this conversation with coworkers this morning at work.
When I was a teenager I read a convincing article by one of the Gun Rag writers that stated something along the lines of "the 30-06 is an outdated cartridge that offers little advantage over the.308, and is far...
Ejection issues from an NEF Handi Rifle, extraction issues from a Win 94, factory new Marlin .22lr with a faulty extractor, broken slide on Revelation pump 12ga shotgun, and 2 misfires from bad primers (obviously not the guns fault)
Back when I owned a 1895GS 45/70 I preferred Starline brass, followed by Winchester. Winchester was thinner and had more case capacity, but the Starline was better overall quality and could stand more pressure when I decided to load up some really heavy loads
The most recent Winchester brass...
I tend to tinker too much, but I also have kids that I am thinking about. I tend to start out with one really good "do all" load, but then think about loading up a youth load and intermediate loads. I also tend to try different bullets and powders for funsies, and next thing I know I've found a...
I want to try the 210 Partition, but my only experience with Partitions in the past led to less than stellar groups from a.270 that shot BTs, ABs, and SHKs lights out. I may try them later, but just have much more confidence in ABs for accuracy
I know that part of this will be personal preference and what your eyes see the best through, but I would like to hear some feedback on the best quality binoculars available for under $200, and preferably closer to $150 or less. I'm going to ask for them for Fathers Day, and they will be...
The Hodgdon temp stability thing is way overstated, especially in 4350, but H4350 is a great powder for .30-06 and .243. So is I4350; some rifles use both well, while others show a preference for one over the other.
4350 is a bit slow for.22-250, and you will likely run out of room before...
So far I am a big fan of the AB in .270 and .30-06. Every deer that I have shot with them has dropped on the spot, but the bullet always left an exit wound, as well. If the animals would have run then they would have left good blood trails with pass through shots... the best of both worlds.
My dad and I have an outfitter in western Colorado lined up for next fall. I'm really confident in my Savage 116 with 180 ABs, but my brother convinced me that I would be more confident with more gun if an elk presented a longer range less than perfect shot.
Oh I'm sure that 1.25 MOA is plenty, and several time I've shot MOA or better groups from it, but I can't consistently get the smaller groups that give me confidence in my rifle. I've really gotten spoiled by my Savage 116 .30-06, Rem 700 .270, and now a Win M70 .30-06, (not to mention the...
