I started on my dads RCBS Jr that I now have, and still use for some tasks. I replaced a RockChucker I had bought at a garage sale before recieving the Jr with a Lyman Orange Crusher (I was offered such a deal to sell the RC I couldn`t refuse)
I now use a Forster Co-Ax, and wouldn`t give it up...
Might work OK with a straight walled case such as a 45/70 but I don`t think a bottleneck case like the 30-06 would take well to a shot load.
I loaded birdshot (#9 or #12) in a 357mag and 45LC years ago with my dad, and it wasn`t worth the trouble as remember. They blew their pattern after 10 ft...
Great 1st post! Don`t be shy, keep the posts coming it sounds like you`ve lots to offer. You aren`t the only one the moose haven`t cozied up to yet
Clean with dish soap and air dry without rinsing. This leaves a film that helps break the static grip on the powder. If you still have sticking try rubbing with a drier sheet (bounce, ect) I`ve heard quite a few people recommend pouring a pound of powder through a new funnel or measure to help...
Welcome to the boards.
I`m sorry I can`t be much help with your question , but I believe reducing the velocity ~30 fps per inch of barrel lgt lost will get you in the ball park.
JD338 Thanks for the info. Too bad about Answer though. They had a good product IMO, and did pretty good work. I had them screw a couple barrels on for me a few years ago, and am still happy with the result.
I agree. The Williams brake appears to be the old Answer Systems brake, and is a very good one if so. Answer was right down the road from Williams until they went under 2-3 years ago. I know one of the old Answer smiths is working at Williams, wouldn`t be suprise they/he bought the brake from...
I weight them.
Actually I use a Quick measure to drop a charge, and if a bit light I trickle, a touch over I let it go. Normally I`m not more then a tenth gr over or under and it shouldn`t matter, but.......
I stopped looking when I found how 4064 performed under 150 gr bullets in mine, and was happy enough I never tried other powders.
I have to admit though, I see a argument for both Varget and R15 in every post/forum that discusses the 308 and what works. If I still had a 308 both would also get...
I don`t think anything electric you can buy is warrented for any real lenght of time. Most electronics come with a 90 day max warrenty, and the salesmen get rich selling additional coverage. Look at the manual for your computer, microwave, or TV.
The mechanical stuff lasts and is warrented for a...
I`ve had 3 swedes and still one. All have prefered R22 with 129 or 140gr bullets. H4831 is another good powder and works very well with 120 gr BTs as does H4350. The 6.5x55 in my experiance seems to thrive on the slower powders.
Just this once I`m going to go against the others. The reason being your load (38.4 gr vs 40.0 gr as Hodgdons starting point) is still almost 10% below max (42.5gr) in the Hodgdon book with the powder you did load.
This is a good lesson learned though, and I`d be sure I paid attention from here...
